“We’ve received some news,” he began.

I turned to face Luisa and took both her hands in mine. “We’ve learned of a potential threat.”

Like earlier, her eyes filled with tears.

“As hard as it is to suggest this, we think it would be best if you were to leave Mexico,” said Ridge.

“When?” she whispered to me.

“Right away,” I responded.

“Right away, meaning today?” Seraphina asked.

“I’m sorry, but yes, today.” Ridge embraced his wife.

I refocused my gaze on the woman whose hands I still held. When she nodded and took a step closer, I gathered her in my arms like Ridge had with Seraphina. “I’m sorry,” I whispered.

After several seconds, Luisa pulled away, approached her sister, and the two women hugged. When they let go, Luisa faced me. I held my hand out, and she took it.

“Tell me what I need to do, Press.”

“You and I will join Tryst at the main residence. There, I’ll make the necessary arrangements.”

“For me to leave?”

“My intention is to accompany you.”

“Thank you,” she said just above a whisper.

“Do you want Mom to go with you?” Seraphina asked.

Luisa looked at me.

“It’s up to you,” I said.

She shook her head. “I don’t want her to have to leave the wedding celebration.”

“I can always arrange for her to join us later,” I offered.

“I should pack.”

“Tryst made arrangements for your belongings to be taken to the main residence,” said Zin.

My eyes met his. My anxiety level was already skyrocketing. I wanted to whisk Luisa directly to the plane my brother and I owned jointly. It was sitting on Tryst’s private runway since we’d used it to transport many of the wedding guests here from the Central Coast of California. However, it was rated for two pilots, not one, which meant my brother would have to fly with me.

“I’ll copilot,” Zin offered as though he’d read my mind.

“Would you like Beau to travel with us?” I asked Luisa.

“Is it necessary? I mean, I’d hate for him to have to leave the wedding too. I’m sorry anyone has to because of me.”

“To answer your question, it won’t be necessary for Beau to go with us if Zin does.”

“Then, no.”

I had to admit her response stunned me. While staying at Seahorse, and even when she’d relocated to Butler Ranch, one of the first questions Luisa posed when she and I spoke was always about Beau. Where he was, when he might arrive, what he was up to, whether “his friend” was still in town. More often than not, I answered honestly, saying I had no idea. My brother came and went as he pleased, usually without a care as to how it might affect other people.

“How soon will you leave?” Seraphina asked.
