Rather than respond, I waited to allow Luisa to answer. Instead of doing so, she turned to me.

“Given the number of additional people on the ranch today to assist with the wedding, it is more difficult for us to ensure your safety.”

“I understand. I’d like time to change,” she said, motioning to her gown.

“Of course.”

When the chapel door, which I’d watched Zin lock, opened, the five of us froze.

“Forgive me,” said Tryst. “I should’ve alerted you of my arrival. I have the SUV waiting outside.”

Zin stepped closer to me when Luisa and Seraphina embraced once more. “It might be a good idea to have someone accompany us, given both you and I will be in the cockpit,” he whispered.

He was right. The flight time would be at least three hours. While I had no doubt she’d manage, I hated the idea of leaving Luisa alone in the main cabin for that length of time.

Tryst motioned us to the back of the chapel. “There may be someone available to accompany you.”

“Who?” I asked.

“Her name is Jaicon Heart—code name Esencia. Merrigan Butler from K19 Security Solutions brought her in to assist with the reunification of the other trafficking victims and their families. She is a former MI6 agent.”

“Is she in the area?”

He nodded. “She is, and she has a CMEL rating.”

The acronym Tryst referred to stood for a pilot’s Commercial Multi-Engine License, which meant Ms. Heart could also fly the plane if necessary.

I would make the offer for Zin to remain in Mexico; however, that wouldn’t solve our dilemma of having someone in the cabin with Luisa.

“If she is available and willing, the support would be appreciated. Shall I follow up with Merrigan directly?”

“It’s already been taken care of.”

“Many thanks,” I said, shaking Tryst’s hand. I glanced over my shoulder and saw Luisa approaching.

“I’m ready to leave whenever you are.”

Ridge and Seraphina walked up behind her. I embraced them both without reiterating the apologies already spoken. Like me, I was certain they were thankful we hadn’t received the news about the danger Luisa was in prior to the ceremony.

When we stepped outside, a woman who didn’t appear much older than Luisa, was waiting. Tryst introduced her as Jaicon.

“Hello, Luisa,” she said, stepping forward to shake her hand. The warm way she greeted her endeared the woman to me immediately. Zin nudged me from behind and motioned in Tryst’s direction.

“What do you make of that?” he whispered.

“Not sure,” I responded, also whispering. The look on Tryst’s face was a mix of pride and admiration, but there appeared to be something more. I was ashamed to admit the disparity in their ages left me questioning whether it was attraction.

Once we wereat the main house, Luisa, Zin, and I changed out of our wedding attire, then I worked on filing our flight plan. While it wasn’t completely necessary, in order to fly above ten thousand feet using instrument flight rules rather than visual flight rules, filing was required. Prior to finalizing it, though, I needed to speak with Luisa.

“A moment?” I said when she came out of the bedroom where she’d changed.

She approached, and I led her out to the solarium, where we might have a bit of privacy.

“First, you haven’t asked the specifics of the threat,” I said once we’d both taken a seat on the sofa.

“I’m not sure I want to know yet.”

I nodded. “You needn’t, then. I assure you, you will be kept safe.”
