“I’ll have my own quarters.”

I raised a brow.

“Ridge called it a mother-in-law suite. He said I’d have plenty of privacy. He showed me photos, and it looks bigger than our whole apartment.”

It wouldn’t surprise me if she was right. The Ridge family was very wealthy, as were the Barretts. We could’ve fit five of our apartments in the “guesthouse” I’d stayed in.

“I’m happy for you, Mom.”

“I was so sorry to hear Press’ mother passed away.”

“It’s very sad,” I agreed.

“I’m surprised you’re here instead of with him.”

“They kept it private.”

My mother raised a brow.

“What?”

“Press rarely leaves your side, and when he does, he comes back the following morning.”

“We’re friends. I would’ve just been in the way.”

“It’s Beau, isn’t it? I wish you would wake up and realize he’s not the man for you.”

“I have.”

My motherclappedher hands.

“Are you kidding me right now?”

“Finally,” she said, squeezing my cheeks with one hand. “Press is so much better for you.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! I said I realized Beau is not the man for me. I didn’t say anything about Press.”

She rolled her eyes. “What else do you expect the man to do, Luisa? He would lay the world at your feet if you asked.”

“He cares about me, Mom, but there’s nothing romantic between us.”

“You’re a very smart girl, but sometimes I think part of your brain goes to sleep.”

“What does that mean?”

“Press is in love with you, my darling daughter. It’s time you woke up and realized it.”

I looked down at my phone and saw a message alert.

“It’s him, isn’t it?” my mother asked, leaning over to see the screen.

“I don’t know who it’s from.”

“Well, look!”

I stood, walked over to the staircase, and swiped the screen. I saw the name Barrett. However, the message wasn’t from Press; it was from Beau.

I just want you to know I’m sorry.
