“Is he in Australia?” I asked.

“I don’t believe so.”

“Hmm.”

“Yes, that about sums it up.”

I was headed upstairs to look for her when Jada came down. “I’m going home for a bit. I can come back later tonight, though.”

I hugged her. “You don’t have to. I’m okay, I promise. Plus, my mom and sister are here. And if I’m feeling really low, I’ll just pay Sorcha a visit. At the very least, she’ll feed me.”

She laughed, but the smile left her face when Zin followed Ridge through the front door.

“You’re leaving?” he asked, looking at her bag.

“Yes.”

“What was that about?” I whispered when the two men went into the kitchen.

“Ugh. I can’t stand him.”

“I didn’t realize you knew him well enough to care one way or another.”

She shrugged, and even though we couldn’t see him or Ridge any longer, she stuck her tongue out in that direction.

“Okay, there’s a story here.”

“Not a very interesting one.” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “I’ll see you later. Call me when he’s gone, and I’ll come back.”

“I already told you I’ll be fine.”

“Call me anyway.”

She wasn’t out the door more than a minute when Zin returned. “Did Jada leave?”

“She told you she was going to. What’s the deal with you two?”

“Why? What did she say?”

“She told me everything.”

Zin’s face paled.

“I’m kidding! Oh my God. Now, I really want to know.”

“There’s nothing to tell.”

“Right. That’s why when I said she told me everything, you looked like you swallowed a turd.”

His nose scrunched. “Ew. Don’t say shit like that.” He winked and walked out the front door.

“Ha, ha. I’m going to pester both of you until one of you tells me,” I shouted after him.

It was only when I saw his car pulling away from the house that I remembered he hadn’t said anything about his conversation with Press.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket, wishing there was a message from him, even though I knew better than to expect one. We’d gone from talking at least once a day—usually so he could tell me when he planned to stop by Butler Ranch, where we’d talk for hours—to one ten-minute, uber-awkward conversation.

I sighed and sat beside my mother on the living room sofa. “So you’re moving in with Ridge and Seraphina?”
