“I’ve plenty of room at the beach.”

He nodded. “I think I’ll stay on as well.”

While it wasn’t unusual for him to do so, October was the end of crush season in the winery. In his absence, our father had overseen this year’s harvest, but given he was head winemaker, I was stunned Beau wasn’t anxious to return to Napa.

Perhaps, like the rest of us, he was exhausted and would head north after a couple of days’ rest.

I excused myself to the aircraft lavatory, and when I returned, I overheard him mention my plan to Luisa.

“We don’t want to impose,” said Seraphina when I approached.

“Not at all,” I said, shooting a look at my brother. “It was my idea, and I’d be happy to have you stay on as long as you’re comfortable doing so.” My eyes met Luisa’s. “Like at the flat, I can assure you, every security measure is already in place.”

“My mom…”

I sat down beside her. “It was to be a surprise, but she will be there, waiting, when we arrive. I’ve invited her to stay on as well.”

She leaned into me and rested her head on my shoulder like she had when we were leaving Felixstowe. “I don’t know how to thank you, Press.”

Perhaps it was too forward of me, but I leaned down and brushed her forehead with my lips. “Your comfort and safety is all that matters.”

When I raised my eyes, my brother shot me a look similar to the one he’d received from me.

LUISA

My mom and I were sitting on chaise lounges on Press’ deck, looking out at the ocean, when my sister joined us.

“How are you doing?” she asked. “It’s a little chilly right by the ocean. Can I get you another blanket?”

I smiled and pointed to the ground beside the chaise. “Beau brought out two more. Press did too.”

“They’re so attentive,” my mother commented. “Will you be out here for a bit?” she asked Seraphina.

“Definitely,” my sister responded.

“I might lie down inside, if you don’t mind.”

“I should probably checkin with my office,” Seraphina said a few minutes later.

I reached out and took her hand. “What’s going on? You seem troubled about more than me.”

“I don’t want to go back to work,” she admitted.

“Who does? Especially after being here.”

“The Barrett brothers will definitely spoil you,” Seraphina muttered, looking out at the ocean, her expression not one I’d expect with the words she spoke.

“What else is bothering you? I know it’s more than work.”

“I’ve been trying to reach Noah Ridge.”

“He’s giving us time.”

“I know, but I haven’t talked to him since we returned to the apartment in London. It feels wrong. Like something’s up.”

“Have you asked Press or Beau?” It was Press who’d said Noah was “giving us time.” I didn’t question it since everything after my rescue had been a whirlwind.
