“The point is,” he said, returning to the chair in front of her. He sat and leaned on his knees again. “You’re not afraid to get what you want, and I like that.”
“What I want is for you to leave me the fuck alone,” she said harshly.
“Well, that’s not going to happen, so you’re going to have to do things my way.”
“Come closer,” she said, enticing him by spreading her legs. He looked up at her, his eyes piercing her being. He cleared his throat and stood, placing his hands on her arms again.
“What?” he asked in a low whisper.
“I’ll do it for you,” she said, rubbing her leg against his. “Under one condition …” She paused, looking up at him.
He looked down at her thighs. “What’s that?”
“You rot in hell,” she said, quickly pulling her hands out of the straps. She kneed him in the balls and shoved him back on the floor. She made a run for the closet, where she kept the fire extinguisher. She grabbed it and turned around, but he was gone.
She looked around, confused. The apartment was still dark. He could be in any corner, waiting. She wondered if she had imagined all of this.
While walking to the kitchen, she surveyed her surroundings, holding the fire extinguisher close. She paced toward the corner, trying to make out any other movement in the dark.
Suddenly, she was pushed up against the wall, the fire extinguisher dropping to her side. He held her hands behind her back as he leaned into her ear again.
“I have had enough of this, Elizabeth,” he said, whipping her around. He grasped her hands above her head and shoved his body against hers.
His eyes turned a striking emerald green, and he opened his mouth to reveal large, cat-like fangs. His eyes widened as he snarled at her, a sound only an animal could make.
“You will take my offer or die,” he declared fiercely. She looked at him but felt no fear. At that moment, she felt compassion, of all things. Her heart rate slowed, and she looked into his eyes.
“Wh ... what are you?” she asked.
“The harbinger of your fate,” he replied in a low growl. The vibrations of his growl from his chest buzzed against her breasts.
She closed her eyes and breathed deeply, containing her emotions. She opened her eyes slowly and looked at him.
Something shifted in his gaze, and the striking emerald slowly turned back to dark green. The fangs he had bared to her shrank back to human canines. She saw sympathy in his eyes. A sort of sadness and maybe a flicker of hope.
They quickly returned to emerald, rage filling his pupils. His grip on her tightened as he pressed her against the wall.
“Answer me, now!” he said through gritted teeth. “Make your decision.”
Their noses almost touched, breath swaying back and forth onto each other. Elizabeth felt fear return to her chest. Her body throbbed with excitement and terror. She glanced at the photo of her and her father on the windowsill.
She couldn’t outrun him, couldn’t fight him, couldn’t manipulate him. She had used every trick in her book to no avail. He was smarter than her, stronger, more agile, and almost inhuman.
He slammed her hands against the wall. “Now!” he commanded.
She let out an exhale of surprise. He rubbed his chest on hers, pinning her tightly. She looked into his eyes and thought of her answer. It was now or never.
Chapter7
Liz
“I’ll do it,” Liz said, breathless and reluctant. His eyes faded to a dull green once more as he released her hands from the wall.
“If you run,” he pointed a threatening finger at her. “I will find you. If you try to manipulate me, I will catch you. If you deny me one more time…” he said, his gaze darkening, “that will be the last thing you will ever do.”
She stood stock still against the wall, her hands by her sides. “Tomorrow, seven o’clock. Be at Sinsations. Be ready,” he ordered as he turned to the door and left the apartment.
Liz sank down the wall to the floor. She stretched her hands out to her sides. All she wanted was to go to school and pay her rent. How the fuck did she get mixed up with a mob?
