He glances at her, with her curly hair lifting in the autumn breeze, slender and gorgeous in her wedding dress.

“She’s one in a million,” I say, my voice husky with emotion. “Ko te mea nui ko te aroha.” The greatest thing is love.

“Yeah,” he says, and brings his gaze back to me, smiling. “Thanks. For everything.”

“Least I could do.”

He gives me a bearhug, and we stand there like that for a moment before Sidnie finally comes up and says, “Are you two trying to make me cry?” following which we break apart with a laugh.

Everyone forms two lines between which Mack and Sidnie walk while we toss rose-petal confetti over them and cheer. Gradually the guests filter in and find their places around the long tables in the saloon.

I’m sitting on Sidnie’s left, and it’s only when I take my seat, I see with surprise that the placeholder on my left bears Elizabeth’s name.

“You can thank me later,” Sidnie says.

I glare at her. “Stop meddling.”

“I like meddling,” she says cheerfully. “Anyway, it was Mack’s idea. He’s determined to get the two of you together as much as we can until you sort things out.”

“It is sorted,” I reply.

Mack leans forward to speak around her. “No, it’s not. So for Christ’s sake work things out tonight, now you just happen to be sharing a cabin.” He gives me a look that saysFooled you there.

My jaw drops. “You engineered that?”

“I did. You’re welcome.”

“For fuck’s sake.”

“Serves you right for springing thehakaon me.”

“That was your wife’s fault,” I point out.

His lips curve up. “My wife,” he says. “Oh-ho, I like that.” He pulls her against him and nuzzles her ear. “I’ll inspect your ring later on.”

She giggles, and I roll my eyes. “Jesus.”

“You’re only jealous,” he says.

I open my mouth to reply, then shut it again as Elizabeth appears beside me. “Was this your idea?” she asks Mack suspiciously.

“Yes,” he says, “and it’s my special day, so the two of you need to sit down and stop arguing.”

She pokes her tongue out at him as she takes her seat.

“I mean it,” he says. “Things have been weird lately, and I don’t like it. I want you two to sort yourselves out.”

“He engineered us into sharing a cabin,” I tell Elizabeth.

Her eyes widen and she glares at him. “You did not.”

“I did,” Mack says. “Now the two of you need to drink some champagne, get drunk, and have really dirty sex, because you’re both doing my head in.”

That makes me laugh, while Elizabeth closes her eyes and mutters, “Oh my God.”

“Just ignore him,” I tell her. “He’s going to be unbearable for the next few weeks.”

“Damn straight,” Mack says, leaning back as the waiters bring around the starters.
