His expression shifting once he notices me coming in.

“Perfect…” He croons, smiling to himself before those dangerously dark eyes of his focus on mine. Making me fidget, still shy when it comes to taking a compliment from him. But feeling every bit special for pleasing him.

“How did you know my size?” I can't help asking, “And do I really need so many clothes?” I add, recalling how many outfits, shoes and bags I noticed. Still almost convinced that he must have a sister or someone who might be about my size.

“I’ve memorized everything about you,” he relies instantly, getting a dreamy look of his own once he starts to scan me in my new outfit. It’s just jeans and a sweater with some joggers, but the way he looks at me makes me feel like I’m some kind of princess.

Daddy’s little girl… And loving it.

“If there’s anything you don't like, we can return it. Same goes for the house… If you don't like something, tell me and we’ll make it just how you want.” He says, but I wouldn’t dream of messing with something that already looks perfect and I think he knows it.

“Do we really have to do this though?” I ask, making a face once I see he's ready to go.

“We do.” He says gravely, “I won't ever let anything or anyone hurt you, Violet. And this is the one time I need you to just trust me… Know that it’ll all be finished real soon.”

Chapter 13

Vincent

Ihaven’t worried Violet any more than she already is by telling her everything. About whom I already suspect has been tailing her, as well as me in the process.

This morning while she slept, I emailed my resignation to the college. Also notifying my practice patients that I’m taking a very long holiday, referring them to other therapists if they need it.

Feeling lighter by the minute as I replace everything in my life that’s taken up all my time for all these years with the only thing that matters to me now.

Violet. The life we can build together instead being way more interesting than what I’ve done for so long all alone.

I can’t keep kicking myself for not cottoning on earlier that someone else is stalking her.

This thing today, being ‘bait’ as she puts it is just something I need her to do, so I’m relieved when I see that her landlord has done everything I asked and in record time once I drive us both over to her old place. Taking a car I rarely use and parking well out of sight.

Noticing first of all that the entrance has a more secure entrance already. Propped open as tradesmen and painters file out.

The locksmith is finishing up as we reach her apartment. The landlord shaking his head an making a comment about the price before he notices me. Telling Violet to go inside, I poke my head around the new door of her apartment.

New curtains, new paint. It almost looks inhabitable. But most important, I can see the place is way more secure than it was yesterday. All I need is to slow down whoever wants in next time.

I’ll be watching the place keener than ever from my usual vantage point. And after slipping her landlord another wad of bills to cover any extra expenses, I thank him for doing the right thing. But I also remind him that I’ll be paying him a visit if there’s any issues with Violet’s security.

“I just don't want any trouble…” He huffs.

“You won't have any, not after today.” I assure him, casually asking how long is left on the lease. Watching his eyes light up a little at the prospect of more cash coming his way.

I can afford to let him think she’s staying. I only need to have her here long enough to decommission her stalker. And I just hope whoever it is takes the bait quickly.

I don't want Violet feeling anxious about anything a minute longer than needed.

It pains me to see her in a place like this, but in her own way, Violet seems glad to be home, prompting me to ask her if she’d prefer to stay here after all. I mean, moving in with her Professor after just one night together is a big step for anyone.

For me though, It's all I want. So I’m prouder than ever of her when she assures me that it’s what she really wants too.

“It’ll be a few hours before it’ll look like you’re home alone.” I instruct her. Moving to check the window, parting the new drapes so I know I’ll have a perfect view.

Wanting to stay with her but knowing this can only work if I make myself hidden outside of her building.

And I wouldn't call it guilt but seeing how rattled Violet is knowing someone's been watching her. Knowing that I’ve been doing the same. It hits home just how crazy I have been acting lately, but this new feeling, with her being all mine now?

It’s cancels out everything. Things will be perfect for her from now on. I know they will.
