“Violet… I- I was supposed to do this later… At home-” Vincent says, “In the Japanese garden… With you in a different dress… But I can’t wait.”

I feel my eyes open wider, hanging on every word. Knowing what he’s gonna ask but like the first time I felt his body against me. Like the first time he kissed me, I want to remember this moment forever.

I’ve got plenty of dead air as Vincent stumbles over his words, something I never thought him even capable of for more than a moment. But he’s tongue tied as much as I feel my stomach in a knot.

A perfect knot that makes a heart shape, because trying to put this feeling into words could never even begin to be close.

I reach over for Vincent. Not to present my finger. But to touch him, to feel his hand in mine.

His huge palm covers mine and I give it a gentle squeeze, letting him know his answer long before he even asks the question.

With out eyes locked, the restaurant and everyone in it seems to fade into the distance. The only things either of us can see, hear or feel is each other.

“Violet, I know it's only been one day. But I’ve been we’ve been destined to be together the moment you walked into my classroom, you know that.” He says factually.

And yeah, he's right. I just never thought-

“…And watching you for so long, getting to know you from a distance before I could get to know you up close, I feel like I've known you forever. And I want that forever to keep going… With you as my wife.” He manages to get out, his deep voice showing a tremor of emotion.

“Oh… Vincent…” I sigh, feeling the tears sliding down my cheeks. His mouth crimping as he fights a losing battle with his own but I know he's waiting for an answer.

“If you're proposing, you gotta show me the ring.” I prompt him, as if I’m coaching him from behind.

Vincent clicks his tongue, cursing to himself. Taking his hand from mine just long enough to flip the tiny lid on the box before showing it to me.

“Violet? Will you marry me?” He asks, sounding more like the man who knows just what he wants and only needs to hear one word so he can relax.

“Yes…” I whisper, my mouth so dry I can hardly speak, but I say it again. I’ll always say it, whatever the question and whenever it’s Vincent. The answer will always be yes.

Vincent gets up and slides the ring onto my finger. It’s a perfect fit, just like me and him.

The diamond sprays a rainbow with every subtle movement of my trembling hand, Vincent leans over to kiss me and both of us seal a promise to each other in silence.

I’m his already, and he's mine. He doesn’t need a ring to prove it, but it already is and always will be the one thing I treasure above anything else.

“I love you Violet.” He whispers in my ear, making me flush hearing him say it for the first time. Making my heart explode in my chest as I struggle not to cry too much but only because this really is the happiest moment of my life.

“I- I love you too, Vincent… And yes. I’ll be your wife. I’ll be your everything.”

Our first course arrives, but instead of snarling at the waiter, I notice a wry smile playing on his lips. His dark eyes dancing with a little mischief.

The look of a man who’s life’s complete.

I catch his drift, and without even needing me to approve, my future husband, Professor Vincent Valentine says some other words that are music to my ears right now.

I don't wanna sit through a whole dinner… I want Vincent, inside me. Right now.

“Uhh… We’re gonna need that to go.” Vincent says hurriedly, but registering my own look, he changes his mind.

“Slapping down a handful of bills on the table, he scoops me up out of my seat, and carries me straight out of the restaurant.

Taking me to the one place I know I truly belong now.

In his arms. In our bed.

Home.
