“Maybe when you sleep with women you could tell them up front that there won’t be any repeats,” I said.
“I do. They must not hear me.”
“Do you do it when you’re inside them?” Duke demanded.
Savage grinned and shrugged.
“You dick,” I muttered.
“You love me.” Savage said and then took a drink. “How’s your week been?”
“Good. Busy,” I said. “Actually, I have some news to share.”
“Yeah?” Savage asked, leaning back against the booth.
I nodded. “Yeah. You know how you wanted to meet the guy I’ve been dating?”
“Yeah. I need to meet him and make sure he’s not a complete douche.”
“He’s not a complete douche,” I said. “He’s here. Right now, actually.”
Savage looked around the bar for a moment. “Where? Please tell me he’s not part of the group that looks like casting for Accountants Gone Wild.”
“No.” I turned to face Duke. “He’s not part of that group.”
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Savage focus back on us. Suddenly, it seemed very quiet despite the noise of the bar.
Duke’s arm came around me and he pulled me into the wall of his body. Savage took in the gesture.
I waited for the explosion.
“You guys sure you don’t want another shot?” Savage drawled.
“I’m-I’m sure,” I stuttered. “Well?”
“Well, what?” Savage asked.
“What do you think?”
“About?”
“Us,” I snapped. “Duke and me. We’re together now.”
“You want me to say something?” Savage asked.
“Yes, please,” I begged. He was being far too calm, far too controlled. This wasn’t like him at all.
“Well, I’ll tell you what I think.”
I took a deep breath.
“I think it’s about fucking time,” Savage said. And then he grinned. A big joker sized grin. “He’s been in love with you for years. And you’ve been wasting your time with douche canoes who are more comfortable with blow up dolls than a real woman.”
Duke let out a low chuckle.
“Way to go, dude.” Savage held out his fist to Duke who bumped it with his own. “Bout damn time you sealed the deal. Locked that shit down.”
“She took long enough to come around, didn’t she?” Duke asked.
