I plopped down on the cement floor of the shop and crossed my legs.

“What are you doing?” he demanded.

“We’re negotiating.”

“What? What do you mean negotiating? You’re ruining my marriage proposal. You get that, right? Do you know how much work went into making sure this didn’t look like a slapped together, last minute proposal?”

“Sit.” I patted the spot in front of me.

With a grumble, Duke sat. We faced each other, our legs crossed. His emotions were running higher than mine.

“Tell me how you managed all this.” I waved my hand around, gesturing to the shop and beyond.

“Savage called me the minute he left your place yesterday.”

“Lying bastard,” I said lightly. “He promised he wouldn’t tell you.”

“Yeah, well, Savage is Savage. He told me the situation, and he told me you were planning on proposing to me.”

“So naturally, you had to beat me to it.”

“Naturally.”

“Go on,” I urged.

He set his hands on my upper thighs. “I called Slash’s realtor weeks ago to get her working on something for us. She called last night, actually, said she had something that might work. She brought me here, and I knew. I knew it was perfect for what we needed. What Waverly needed. So, I put it in an offer.”

“You put in an offer—Duke, are you saying you’re already in the process ofbuyingthis place?”

“Yeah.”

I took a deep breath. “Continue.”

“Offer was accepted almost immediately. As you can tell, no one’s living here. I asked if I could use it to stage a proposal. You should’ve heard the realtor sigh. I swear she almost swooned.” He grinned.

I smiled back.

His hands inched up my thighs. “I went ring shopping while Savage, Jessica and Waverly set this up.”

“Set up. You mean the candles and the clovers?”

“Yeah.”

“But, how did you come up with an idea so fast?” I asked. “When I thought I was going to be the one to ask you, I was in a panic because I couldn’t think of anything so perfect for you.”

His eyes met mine, staring into me, like he was seeing me all the way down to my marrow. “I’ve known how I was going to propose to you since we were sixteen-years-old.”

Duke clasped my thighs and urged me to scoot closer. I unfolded my legs and inched my way toward him.

“You asked what I wanted,” he said, his voice suddenly low and intense.

I nodded, my heart rapidly thumping in my chest.

“I want you pregnant, Willa. I want you pregnant with my baby and I want it soon.”

I swallowed, a dull throb suddenly pulsating between my legs.

He took a hand off my thigh and grazed his thumb along the seam of my leather pants, pushing gently. My breath caught and my back bowed.
