He snorted. “My bet is on fifty.”

Chapter34

Duke’s cellphone rested on the coffee table and it lit up with an incoming call. “Do me a favor,” he said. “Grab that for me. You’re sitting up and I’m comfortable.”

“You just want me to climb over you and give you the money shot,” I teased, but I was already going for his phone, even as I joked with him.

I saw Savage’s name across the screen and handed it to Duke. “It’s Savage.”

“Bastard has impeccable timing,” he drawled.

“Not really. We were already finished.”

He raised his brows. “Babe, that was just round one.” He pushed a button and set the phone to his ear. “Yeah?” Duke glanced at me. “Hang on.” He held the phone to me.

With a frown, I took his cell from him. “Hello?”

“Hey,” he said. “Waverly tried to call you and said your phone went to voicemail. She wants to talk to you.”

“Oh. Yeah, sure.”

“Hey,” Waverly said. “Your phone went to voicemail.”

“I turned it on silent,” I said. “What’s up?”

“I found this really cool dresser on marketplace. Can Jess, Dylan, and I grab it this afternoon?”

“Where is it?”

“Dallas.”

“Who’s driving?”

“Dylan.”

“You’ll be home for dinner?”

“Ummm…”

“Let me rephrase. You’ll be home for dinner.”

“Willa,” she whined.

“School night, Waverly. Come on, just do me a favor and be on your best behavior for the next few months while we sort out this legal stuff.”

“So, once you’re my legal guardian, you’ll let me be the rebel punk that I am?”

“Sure,” I said with a laugh.

“Fine. I can play nice. Maybe. Turn your phone on. You gotta be responsible too, you know.”

I hung up his phone and set it aside.

“I’m disgusting,” I announced. “And I need a shower.”

Duke looked at me with hooded bedroom eyes. “I think you look perfect.”

I wrinkled my nose. “I need to clean up before Waverly gets home.”
