“Why didn’t you let her stay out later? Why did you insist she be home for dinner?”

“Because it’s a school night.” I cocked my head to the side. “You would’ve let her stay out later?”

He shrugged. “Knowing what we did when we were her age, yeah I probably would’ve let her stay out past dinner. She’s with her friends. Kids I like, actually. I don’t see the harm in that.”

I’d been straddling Duke, and I awkwardly maneuvered myself off him so that I didn’t knee him in the chest when I moved.

“I have a feeling I’m going to be the hard ass parent, and you’re going to be the softie,” I said as I retrieved my cell phone.

“What makes you say that?” Duke demanded. “I’m a biker. I’m the hard ass.”

“Yeah, right! Have you seen Boxer with Lily? She’s got him wrapped around her finger.”

“Yeah, but that’s Lily. You can’t say no to Lily. No one can.”

“Thus, proving my point.” I glanced at my phone and saw several missed messages. “Someone blew up my phone. I’ve got like forty missed texts.”

“Who from?”

I quickly scanned through them, a smile creeping across my face. “The Old Ladies offering their congratulations on our engagement, along with your boys. I’m guessing you told them you were proposing?”

He shook his head. “Nope. I just told Savage.” He paused. “I guess that means he told them.”

I grinned.

“You’re not mad?” he asked.

“Why would I be mad?”

“Didn’t you want to be the one to share the news?”

I shrugged. “This is fine too.” I looked back through my phone. “Oh, this is fun. I’ve been put on an Old Lady group text. Joni wants everyone to come over tomorrow morning to see the baby—and to celebrate our engagement.”

“Nice.”

“Very.” I set my phone down. “Now, are you going to get your ass up and shower with me?”

“Yeah, I’m moving. You kinda wore me out though. I need a nap.”

“I woreyouout? Seriously? I was kind of hoping for soapy shower sex.”

“Damn, you really know how to celebrate an engagement.” He hopped up from the couch. “I’ll follow you, sweet cheeks. I like the view.”

“If you call me sweet cheeks ever again, you’ll be sticking nothing between those sweet cheeks. Got it?”

“Got it…vixen.”

Duke and I were huddled around my laptop when Waverly came in. “What are you guys doing?” she asked.

“Filling out our marriage license,” I said. “Romantic, isn’t it? You get to fill out paperwork before you can devote yourself to the one you love.”

“Sounds about right, actually. You need a license to drive. Of course you need a license to get married.”

I frowned. “Stop it.”

“Stop what?”

“Stop sounding like an adult. I don’t like it.”
