“You’re late,” Darcy said, holding a drink in her hand.

“I got tied up.” I leaned forward and sniffed the drink.

“It’s a virgin.” She stepped back and I came inside to the foyer. Her eyes took me in, slowly, and then she grinned. “Tied up, you say? Please tell me you actually mean you were literally tied up.”

“Ah, no.” I blushed.

“But you wouldn’t mind, would you?”

“You sure that’s a virgin?” I pointed to her drink. “Because if you’re going to pester me about my sex life, I deserve something to grease the wheels before I spill, no?”

Mia and Allison were sitting on the living room carpet, their babies on a shared blanket in front of them. Brooklyn sat in a plush chair, while Doc perched at the end of the couch. Joni sat at the other end with her newborn asleep in her arms.

“He just fell asleep,” Joni stage whispered. “And I’m not ready to let go of him to put him in his crib.”

I crouched down next to her to peer at the sleeping baby. He was pink and squishy all over.

“His brow is furrowed like a little Yoda baby,” she said with a soft laugh. “Zip looked the same when he was born.”

“Maybe it means he’ll be wise,” I suggested, touching her shoulder and rising.

“We can hope,” Joni said. “Grab a drink and then come back and tell us all the things.”

“What about all the things?” I asked.

“Show us the ring, then tell us all about the proposal, and thenafterthe proposal,” Brooklyn said with a wink.

“I want to know about the dirty stuff,” Darcy said.

“Same,” Mia announced.

I looked around the room. “Rachel isn’t here.”

“Cash had a pediatrician’s appointment,” Mia said. “She’ll try and make it later.”

“Got it.” I nodded. “I need a drink.”

“I’ll get you sorted,” Brooklyn said, holding out her hand to Doc who helped her stand. “Thanks. I’m just big enough, and that chair is just comfortable enough that I never would’ve gotten up without help.”

I followed Brooklyn into the kitchen and she opened the refrigerator. “Sparkling water, cranberry juice, regular water, orange juice…”

“Sparkling water with cranberry, please,” I said.

She pulled out the bottles and set them on the counter. “Listen, I know you just got engaged and the wedding is in a few days because of Waverly’s situation, but Jazz, Brielle and I want to do something for you. Something small. Something girly. Something that will make it more like a wedding and less…”

“Transactional?”

“Yeah, that.”

“What did you have in mind?”

“A spa day.”

I laughed softly. “I’m in. I’msoin.”

“Great. I’ll book it. You don’t have to do a thing.” She handed me my drink.

“You’re the best.”
