“You brought me lemon drops?” I asked with a smile.

“I couldn’t bring you flowers, could I?” he teased.

I lifted the bag of lemon drops to my nose and sniffed. “Hmm. Lemony, sugary deliciousness.” I plopped them in the to-go bag with the tiramisu and then placed my hand on his chest. I leaned in close, my lips near his mouth. “Thank you for dinner.”

He grasped my hips and hauled me into the hard wall of his body. “Anytime, babe. Anytime.”

“What did I tell you about calling mebabe?”

His grin was lopsided. “You’re my onlybabe, babe. Now shut up and kiss me.”

Chapter16

Waverly wason the couch when I got home. As I walked in, I was completely unable to wipe the dopey grin off my face. I set the to-go bag next to her.

“Your tiramisu, my lady,” I quipped.

She grinned. “Your lipstick is smeared.”

“Shit, really?”

“Really, really.” She set her phone down.

“Okay, I know you know,” I said. “About Duke and I.”

“There’s a Duke and you? Officially?” Her eyes widened and they looked extremely hopeful.

“I guess, officially…yeah.” I rubbed the back of my neck. “But we’re not telling anyone. It’s kind of a secret.”

“Why is it a secret?”

“Because we want to explore our relationship without all the outside pressure.”

“Oh. Okay.” She frowned.

“You can’t tellanyone. Not even Jessica…”

“Dylan already knows. He’s the one who told me.”

“I’m not worried about Dylan.”

“Are you worried about me?”

“No. I know you’re oddly good at keeping secrets.”

She bit her lip. “Savage doesn’t know?”

“Not yet. We’re not ready to tell him.”

Waverly scrunched her nose. “Okay. I’ll keep my lips sealed. But I think you should tell him sooner, rather than later.”

“Relationship advice? Really?”

She grinned and I couldn’t help but laugh.

“He makes you happy,” she said.

“Yeah. He does.”
