“As far as I know, I’m the only one who knows your dirty little secret.” She grinned. “I haven’t shared it with anyone, and I wanted to confront you about it becauseoh my God, it’s true!”
“Yeah.” I nodded. “It’s true. Only…it’s not just sex. It’s more. He wants more. And I want more too. But I’m not ready for everyone to know.”
“I knew there was something between you guys,” Brooklyn said. “I can’t tell you how vindicated I feel right now.”
I chuckled, but I was suddenly dying to talk to someone about it who wasn’t Waverly. “My sister knows, but I’ve sworn her to secrecy.”
“So, I’m guessing you haven’t told Savage yet.”
“No. Not yet.”
“Why not?”
“Because it’s been the three of us as a tightly knit friend group for so long that I’m afraid everything will change.”
“But itwillchange. You can’t stop that. As someone who actively attempted not to change my life, this—” she pointed to her belly “—kind of made me understand that when things change you just have to roll with it.”
“Falling in love with Slash changed things too,” I stated.
“Definitely,” she laughed.
“Duke, Savage and I…we work, you know? The three of us work as friends. They’re my chosen family. I love them. But now I’m in love with one of them and I just…don’t know how it’s going to change our dynamic.”
“The relationship is serious…”
I sighed. “Yeah. It’s serious. There are real feelings here. And I didn’t want to deal with it—in the beginning. But here we are, and I can’t…unfeelthem, you know? And I don’t want to.”
“Your world is shifting. Your relationship with Duke will become the center of your universe. I don’t mean that in a bad way, or even to suggest that the rest of your life will get shoved to the side because of it. But when you build a life with someone, when you make that decision, it becomes the most important thing.”
“I have Waverly.”
“Yes. Who’s currently the grand old age of fifteen.”
“Who’s at the height of her rebellion,” I admitted. “Though we have found a sort of rhythm. I asked her not to lie to me anymore. We’ll see if that sticks.”
“Are you using your sister and your concern about how Savage will react to keep your relationship under wraps?”
“Maybe,” I admitted.
“Well, I’ll keep your confidence, and if you ever need to talk about it…”
“Thanks,” I said with a smile.

“Brooklyn knows,”I said the moment I answered Duke’s call.
“Brooklyn knows what?”
“About us.”
“Did you tell her?”
“No. She smelled it.”
“Smelled what?”
I looked toward the bedroom even though the door was closed and Waverly was asleep. I pitched my voice lower anyway. “The sex, Duke. She smelled the sex we had the night at the clubhouse with her pregnancy nose, and now sheknows.”
