When Magic returned with mine, Aimee had swallowed half a sandwich.

The door flew open, making Aimee, Alice, and I jump. A wild-haired man stood in the doorway and scowled at Alice as she raised the shotgun and clicked the safety off.

“Alice, shoot me, babe, and I’ll forget Magic’s rule about hands off the barmaids, and I will paddle your sweet ass,” Inglorious warned as his gaze swept the bar. Inglorious spied me and, in three long strides, had me out of my chair and in his arms. I burrowed into him as he wrapped me tightly and rocked me like a baby.

“Fuck, Aurora, when we got the call… Klutz is a man possessed. He’s coming. Drake and Gauntlet are with him. Everyone’s been out looking, weren’t going to leave one of our own in trouble.”

“I survived,” I whispered, tears choking me as everything started catching me up. There were two bikers present, Magic and Inglorious, and a warm feeling of safety swamped me, and I didn’t have to be strong now. They would be strong for me. The walls crumbled, and I began sobbing into Inglorious’s cut. To his credit, Inglorious didn’t shy away, but picked me up, carried me to a chair, and sat rocking me in his arms. Magic hovered like a papa lion, stroking my hair and patting Inglorious on his shoulder. Finally, the tears stopped, and I wiped my face. Alice handed me a wet cloth.

“If Klutz sees those red eyes, he’ll be fit to be tied,” Alice said gently. She patted Aimee on the back, and I glanced at Aimee in embarrassment.

“Sorry, it was just overwhelming, the fact we’re safe,” I muttered.

Aimee shrugged with understanding.

“Who are you?” Inglorious demanded, his eyes taking Aimee’s condition in and, by his expression, he wasn’t happy.

“Aimee was also a prisoner. She’d been held longer than me, and I helped her escape. If Casey hadn’t worked on my lock-picking skills, we’d still be there. Trapped.” I shuddered, and Inglorious gripped me tighter.

“You require medical help?” he asked Aimee.

“Probably. At the least, I need a pregnancy test,” Aimee said, starting off boldly and her voice fading. Aimee’s gaze drifted away, and her eyes unfocused.

Fuck! I’d never considered that.

“Aimee, if you are, we’ll stand by whatever decision you make,” I whispered, touching her hand.

“Hard choice, but you won’t be alone,” Inglorious stated.

Curious, I tilted my head to peer at him, wondering what he meant by that, but Inglorious wasn’t in the mood to elaborate. Which sucked big time. The door opened again, and Magic yelled.

“Face masks and social distancing!”

I jumped, surprised because none of us had worn them.

“Oh dear,” I muttered. I began to try to free myself from Inglorious, and his arms tightened.

“Was tested this morning. It’s negative, and it’s okay, girls, you can do tests for this fucking virus in a moment. Magic makes everyone test who comes into the bar,” Inglorious stated.

“Get us those tests!” I demanded with horror in my eyes. I had totally forgotten about the pandemic. The newcomer shoved a face mask on and moved closer. I recognised the eyes above the mask; it was Jailbait, the quiet President of the Devil’s Damned Disciples.

“Glad to see you made it, Aurora Victoria,” Jailbait murmured as he checked me from head to toe.

“Happy to have escaped Jailbait,” I whispered.

Jailbait’s gaze flicked to Aimee and then back to me. Jailbait nodded carefully, his eyes taking in Aimee’s bruises and paleness.

“Klutz is ten minutes out. He passed Lance at full throttle. Lance gave me the head’s up. Magic is gonna need to sort some shit out in the yard. Despite this fucking covid shit, everyone’s heading here, man,” Jailbait warned.

“Bollocks!” Magic snapped and headed for the door. “Alice, call in the staff!”

“Yes, master!” Alice grumbled, making the shotgun safe and putting it back under the bar.

“Don’t let Diesel hear you say that!” Jailbait quipped, and I winced at the look Alice sent him.

“If Diesel wants to fuck with me, I’ll fuck with him!” Alice retorted with a lot of emotion in her words.

Despite my predicament, my ears popped up. I exchanged a knowing look with Jailbait, whose eyes crinkled, and I guessed he was grinning behind his mask.
