“The promotion was part of it, but that’s not the only reason I did it,” he said.

We were led to a table in the center of the room, and I looked around, amazed that they had even removed the other tables to make space for us.

“I feel like a princess,” I said. “Oh!”

I pointed to the other side of the room and gasped. There were two people walking through the door with six penguins following them.

“How did you do this?” I asked.

“Magic,” he said. “Just a bit of magic.”

I turned to look at him, then gasped again. He was down on his knee with a small box in his hand, and he smirked at me when I saw what he was doing. I knew right away what was happening, but I still couldn’t find the words to speak as he asked me to marry him.

“Through everything we have been through, I have always known without a doubt that you are the one woman for me. I know I’ve already told you that I will love you forever, but I want to do more than that. I want to put this ring on your finger, and I want you to take my last name. Laurel, you are the best thing to ever happen to me, and if you will give me a chance, I will spend every day trying to be the best thing that’s ever happened to you, too. Will you marry me?” he asked.

With tears running down my cheeks, I wasn’t able to say anything out loud, but I nodded, throwing my arms around his neck and kissing him tenderly.

At last, we pulled apart, and he slid the ring onto my finger.

The penguins continued to waddle around the room, and we were waited on like we were royalty. I was shocked he had done all this for me, and I could hardly believe I wasn’t dreaming.

But my life had really become a fairytale, and I was happier than I even thought possible.

I had found my happily ever after.
