Eli shrugged slightly. “It’s fine,” he said. “I can’t expect you to trust me after one night together.”

There was a small sparkle in his eyes, and I knew that he was not angry with me. “I think that it was more an afternoon into an evening.”

Eli gave me a soft smile. I loved when he smiled. It made him all the more handsome.

“What are you doing this weekend?” he asked out of nowhere.

I looked at him, surprised that he was asking the question. After all, Eli was supposed to be following after me. “I have to go to Boston for a college visit.”

“I thought you were going to Columbia?”

That was what Marco said. There were several times he’d talked about it with Sasha, Fiona, and Luca’s mother. They’d reminisced about her own time there. Apparently, Marco had been her guard.

I hadn’t thought too much about it, but now, I realized that an odd detachedness overtook Eli’s face when I mentioned the school.

He wasn’t scowling like he had when I’d arrived, but there was a sort of deadness in his eyes, which in my opinion, was almost worse.

“I haven’t made a final decision.”

I blinked several times at his words. I didn’t know a great deal about college. It was never something that I was interested in, but even I suspected you couldn’t just make a final decision well past the time you graduated.

But I didn’t say that. “I don’t know if I’m allowed to leave New York,” I admitted. It felt ridiculous, and six months ago, I would not have given a shit about my father’s rules. But that girl was a great deal different. She didn’t think about the consequences of her actions. Ever.

“I’ll take care of it,” Eli assured me.

He spoke with such confidence that I believed him.

I pretended to think for a moment. “Do you think we might be able to check out a museum?” I’d never been to Boston, and the idea of seeing something new was exciting. I would never say this aloud because it seemed so silly, but it was nice to be able to look forward to something.

“Yes,” Eli said. “We can see whatever you’d like.”

I smiled up at Eli. I couldn’t help it. Just hours ago, we were at each other’s throats, and now, I was excited about the possibilities of a weekend away.

“Then, yes.”

Eli leaned down and kissed me. He stole my breath as he kissed me deeply. His tongue swiped across my lips, and I opened my mouth to grant him access. Despite my misgivings, I kissed Eli back with just as much ferocity, not breaking away until I was absolutely desperate for air.

When I did, I felt sort of dazed by the entire thing. “Let’s go to bed,” Eli said.

He didn’t wait for a response as he took my hand and led me into the room.

Sophia was sitting across from me with her mouth slightly open in shock. I would have laughed had I not been holding my breath.

When I woke up that morning, snuggled in Eli’s arms, I felt an odd shyness that was not like me. I had to go to class, so Eli and I hadn’t had a chance to talk. Not that I knew what we would say to one another, which is why I’d spilled the beans to Sophia.

“Are you going to say anything?” I asked.

I’d never had a true girlfriend before, so I wasn’t sure how this sharing thing went, but generally, I suspected that there was more talking and less open-mouthed staring.

“How was it?” Sophia’s eyes twinkled, and I released a groan.

“Sophiaaa,” I dragged out the last syllable. “Be serious.”

She chuckled. “I am,” she told me. We were in the library of the school studying for a test. We were supposed to be studying at least. I couldn’t think though. Whenever I focused on the words on the textbook, my mind immediately thought of everything that happened the night before.

She pressed the edge of her pen to her lips and chewed on it slightly. “I’ve always wondered what he would be like in bed. His brother’s ego is huge, but apparently, so is his dick.” She spit those words out. I was desperate to know what exactly happened between her and Matteo. But now was not the time. “Luca had quite the reputation as well.”
