“So,” he said, “what should we do to celebrate finding each other again?”

“Hmmm,” I said, drawing out the syllable. “I think you should take me out on a date.”

His eyes lit up as he pressed the elevator button. “A date, huh? I think that can be arranged. But I haven’t been here in years. Any suggestions?”

The elevator doors opened and we stepped inside.

I grinned from ear to ear. “Do you remember the Santa Monica Pier? There’s a Ferris wheel...”

Brooke

ONE YEAR LATER.

“God, these sheets are soft,”I moaned. “I’m so glad we splurged.”

Alex trailed a series of kisses down my neck and along my collarbone, running his tongue across my bare skin until he found my nipple and slipped it between his teeth.

“You’re thinking about the sheets right now?” he growled playfully.

I shrugged, moaning again as he continued to toy with my breast. “I can’t help it. It’s the first time we’ve used them.” He laughed against my skin, and the vibration of his mouth sent a wave of pleasure through me. “I like the new bed, too.”

I tugged Alex’s hair, pulling him upward so our mouths could meet, stroking his tongue with mine before biting his bottom lip. Once my hand trailed down his torso and gripped his hard length, he was the one who moaned.

“Me, too,” he choked out. “Why don’t we really put it to the test?”

I smiled. “Yes, please.”

Alex flashed me a mischievous smile and then shifted so his body wholly covered mine. “I love you, Brooke.”

“I love you, Alex.”

He plunged into me without breaking his gaze, and I let the intensity wash over me like the hot LA sun we’d left behind. We quickly fell into sync, our bodies rocking together in what still felt like the highest form of pleasure I’d ever experienced. It wasn’t long until we both climaxed, catching our breath while still tangled in each other’s arms in our new home.

I swirled a finger through the dark hair on his chest and stared up at him. “One room christened, so many more to go.”

He smiled. “I’m glad we started with the bedroom.”

I looked around the space, large windows letting the afternoon light seep in, lived-in dark wooden floors with a hint of old-world charm—cozy but still fairly modern. “I’m still not sure this closet is big enough,” I said, nodding at the double doors across from the bed.

Alex kissed my forehead and chuckled. “It’s twice the size of the one in our first apartment. And you promised to stick to the necessities and put the rest in storage. I see a lot of boxes over there.”

He wasn’t wrong. Everything in our new house was twice the size of that first dinky off-campus apartment.

Still, I narrowed my eyes at him. “I moved from LA to New York. I couldn’t put all of my memories in storage. Besides, I see boxes withbothof our names.”

“Those are my clothes. My wardrobe has grown in the last ten years, you know.”

I laughed and sat up, my mind shifting back to our long to-do list. “Speaking of which, I’m going to need a shopping spree. I don’t have nearly enough clothing for this cold weather. Remind me again why we decided to stay in the colder part of the country?”

Alex slipped out of bed and pulled back on his boxers. “Because you always wanted to live in New York. And it made more sense with my business.” He kissed me softly and added, “Which I appreciate.”

There had never really been a question about where we’d live. I could work anywhere, and it had only taken me about three months to find a job managing PR for an investment firm in the Financial District. Alex had rented an apartment while we looked for this house—ourhouse—and managed the rest of the move logistics. Now, here we were, finally settling in.

“Why don’t we hold off on the closet, and you come help me in the living room?” he asked, pulling on a T-shirt and jeans.

“Only if you stop putting on any more clothes.”

“It’s just as easy to take them back off,” he said with a wink.
