She shifted and turned on the bed where she sat; she felt uncomfortable under my gaze. I kept looking at her, not bothered by how much it made her uncomfortable.

"What is it?" She finally broke down.

"What is what?" I asked, pretending not to know what she was talking about.

"You know! You've been staring at me for almost an hour now. Is there something on my face or my body?" she asked, checking herself out.

I laughed, and from the look on her face, I could tell she didn't like that I had laughed at her question. "I'm sorry, it's not that. You're just so cute when you are curious."

Her frown didn't change; she felt I was patronizing her. I got up from my work chair and went to meet her on the bed. I sat next to her and pulled her closer to me.

"I was wondering what you're up to this evening? No date? No town fair? No chores?"

Lindsey stared at me with a questioning look, unsure of what I was driving at. "What do you mean?"

"I was wondering if you’re free to go out with me?" I asked directly.

She clasped her hands over her mouth.

Cute. Sexy. And surprised! Good job, man!

She was pretty excited that I had asked her out on a date. It took her almost a full minute before she unclasped her mouth. "Yes, I will like that very much," she said, barely able to contain her excitement.

"Guess that settles it then. How does five sound?"

She raised a brow at me. "Isn't that a bit … early?" she asked.

"It's a special place, so I want us to leave as early as possible." I smiled.

Curiosity was written all over her face. She obviously wanted to ask where the special place was, and I was waiting for her to ask.

"Can I ask what you have in mind?" she asked when she couldn’t stand it anymore.

"That's for me to know, and for you to be surprised about," I said, and kissed her. She still wanted to ask more questions, but my face said I wouldn't spill anything, so she swallowed them.

"Well then, what kind of outfit should I wear? I don't want to go where I'll be underdressed or overdressed."

"Just look as good as you always do. I trust you to do that. Don't worry about being over- or under-dressed."

My words didn't do much to make her feel any better. I could tell she was overthinking the whole thing. I wanted to assure her it was okay, but I knew the only way to do that was to tell her where we were headed.

And that would ruin your surprise.

The lodge had no guests booked. Just Sherry (whom I finally met after living here for nearly two weeks), Bryan, and me.

It was the perfect time for my plan. I had contacted Sherry and told her everything. She decided to take a weekend off work, as she felt she had been overworking herself, anyway. Everything was falling into place.

I was ready and in the great room as I waited for Lindsey. At five, she came down. She wore a flower-print dress, and had a jacket on her arm, in case it got chilly. She was absolutely lovely. I stared in awe as she came down the stairs.

"You look amazing,' I said to her.

"Thank you," she replied with flustered cheeks.

I stretched out my hand and she took it.

"Shall we?" I said.

"Lead the way," she smiled.
