I logged into my reader app and pulled up the latest orc smut I was currently obsessed with—Iknow, I shouldn’t walk and read, but I was feeling reckless.

Picking up where I left off—seconds away from penetration, I slowed to a stop, resting on a conveniently placed bench on the boardwalk. With the beach at my back, I fell right back into the story.

It was just getting good too. The Orc king was going totownon the heroine and his royal guard had just walked in, dick hard and ready to fuck them both—when my stupid phone went black.

Nearly shouting with surprised indignation, I tried to wake it back up, but it was no use. It was dead.

I slouched further down against the bench, whiningjust a little.

I was ready to wallow in self-pity, already prepared to jump back into my smelly sweats when I got home and stuff my face with Ring Dings and Rocky Road—when a bright light illuminated the screen.

Thinking the phone was turning itself back on and I had battery left, after all, I started to smile.

My smile froze on my face when my phone started to vibrate like it was competing with my Hitachi wand. A sudden ominous sensation ghosted down my spine.

I held my breath, something inside of me bracing for the unknown.

The last thing I expected was a kaleidoscope of colors to burst out of my phone like a cartoon vomiting a rainbow. And then, in the space of seconds, my surroundings vanished.

The colors engulfed me, searing my retinas, and then I felt unbearable heat, a burst of sharp wind, and thenfreezing cold.

When the ringing in my ears died down, and the colored lights faded, I glanced around in confused suspicion.

Where the hell did the beach go?

Chapter2

JUNE

Even the air felt different...strange.

It was a shock—no, it was so much worse than a shock.

It was hysteria-inducing to be torn away from the beach and the warm sun and thrust into zero-degree temperatures—knee-deep in snow.

Sight and sound came back slowly.

My body was numb for only long enough for my eyes to clear, and then it was immediately overwhelmed by the frigid air around me.

I blinked, gasping for air and only catching ice, gaping at the drastic change in environment.

Had I not been wearing sandals and nearly naked, perhaps I would have had a moment to wonder if I was imagining the entire scenario, but unfortunately, I’d chosen my skimpiest white bikini this morning and my most sheer maxi dress.

So instead, I screamed every curse word in my vocabulary and immediately searched for warmth.

Other than the vast white spread out before me, there was a cropping of massive rocks a few feet to my left.I rushed forward—my attempt at a run—and immediately faceplanted in the fluffy snow covering the ground.

“Fucking shit!” I cried, leaping up and picking up my knees much higher to climb over the deep snow.

Galloping like my life depended on it, I finally reached the rock cropping and crawled up to one with an overhang that protected it from the falling snow.

The dry space was small as fuck, or my hips were wide as hell—either way, I barely fit in the small space.

Curled up like a roly-poly, I sat woodenly and caught my breath, gawking out at the frozen tundra around me. My mind couldn’t seem to grasp what had happened.

One moment I was sitting on the bench, the sun heating my back, and then next…I’mwhat?

Did I fall asleep? Was this a dream?
