Thank you.

I hope those dates work for you – because I really want to come home… In fact, I think I’m going to go ahead and stop by Reilly’s office and request them before someone else does. I can always cancel if it’s a bad time.

I miss you.

Love always,

John

Quickly composing a second email,he smiled happily, realizing that he had the best of both worlds. A team around him, a wife whom he adored, and a friend who could lend support, because her brother and brand-new husband both were active duty.

Never, ever, could he have imagined that he would be related to both Hot Cakes and Vapor distantly by marriage. It would make for very interesting reunions and holidays… that much was for sure!

Hey Jana,

Congratulations to you and Vapor!

I am so happy for you both, and know just how wonderful it is when you find that special someone. Could you have imagined how our lives would have changed a year ago when we first exchanged emails?

How have you been?

You were soooo right about Emily – she’s an absolute doll, and I can’t thank you enough for ditching me. No offense, but my goodness, you did me such a huge favor. She’s everything to me, and I feel so lucky to have met her.

Don’t be a stranger – and send me pics of the wedding!

Chat soon,

John ‘X-Ray’ Masden

CHAPTER30

EMILY

“WHOOOAAAA my gosh…”she hissed out in disbelief as she checked the calendar on her phone, and realized that she was two weeks late on her period.

“Oh no, no, no…”

Her phone rang and she answered it quickly, realizing she sounded like a strangled cat – and accidently dropped the phone. Quickly picking it up, she checked the screen to make sure the call was live before speaking.

“Hello?”

“Emily? Are you coming down with something? You sound awful…”

“Karen! Oh my gosh Karen… I’m seriously freaking out,” Emily blurted out painfully, feeling her throat close up as she choked back a sob. “I don’t know what to do.”

“What’s wrong? You’re scaring me… Emily, what is going on?”

“I can’t… I just… oh my gosh, John…”

“Emily…?” Karen said softly, “Sis, talk to me… I’m on my way over, and you need to keep talking to me. This is not normally you. Whatever is wrong, we can get through it together… Chase! Chase, give me back the…”

Emily heard a scuffle as she sat down numbly on the loveseat and stared at the wall in disbelief where the calendar hung. John was supposed to be flying back into town on Friday afternoon, and they were going to have dinner with her family.

“Emily? Are you okay?” her brother’s voice said firmly on the phone. “Dork to Harpy – come in, Harpy… Do you copy?”
