There’s a boring convention I’ve already committed to the last week of May and I can’t cancel, or I would have. There’s going to be so much to do, and I signed up thinking it might be a nice escape, but now I’m kind of dreading it…

I’m so sorry.

Em - What about June?

Where are you going in May for your convention? I could just meet you there and take you to dinner if you have any free time at all? Livening up ‘boring conventions’ in a strange town is my specialty, and I could be your bodyguard…

Lots of muscle on this frame, milady…

I’ll be happy to let you check out my stunning biceps!

(Just not my abs, okay? I like to eat and hate running. Let’s pretend you don’t notice that I’m getting a little soft around the middle.)

Hi John,

July might be free?

I’m going to Las Vegas for a business convention for three days in May. It’s going to be pathetically boring with lots of demonstrations on software, rubbing elbows, and discussing changes in the tax laws.

I’m literally laughing at your description of your abs – and if you think that’s getting ‘soft’ around the middle… what must you think of me?

Em – can I call you?

I’ve got less than ten minutes before my mission briefing and really need to talk…

Emily hesitatedas she read this last email – only to jump the moment her cell phone rang beside her with an unknown number on the display.

“Hello?”

“Em… Oh gosh, I’ve missed your voice.”

“Hey,” she smiled, touched by the sincerity of his voice. “It’s been two days. You sure called fast. I didn’t expect you to so quickly and…”

“I was here and had a calling card in my wallet already from when I went to mail your package.”

“Do what?”

“We aren’t talking about that right now,” he said evasively. “What do you think of us meeting again in May?”

“I’ll be wrapping up the tax season and then I have that convention…”

“That’s just it,” he interrupted softly. “I could fly there and see you for the three days. Even if it’s only for three hours a day, it’s better than waiting until July, August, or September at this point. I just want to see you.”
