“My purse? Where’s my purse? We should have a marriage license around here somewhere, right?”

“The marriage license is by the phone on the desk.”

Emily pulled out of his arms and began searching the room, looking around, and saw the strap of her purse sticking out from under the bed. Pulling it out, she sat on her knees and hesitated…

“John?”

“Did you find something…?”

Emily stared at her phone in amazement, seeing the new wallpaper that was on her phone. It was a photo of the two of them, both giving lazy drunken smiles, as they stood there together under a neon light that said ‘Newly Married’…

“I guess we did get married…” a chuckle escaped her. “We look completely plastered, and I really don’t want to show anyone that photo.”

John knelt down beside her where she sat – and cracked up laughing.

“I look higher than a kite…”

“What’s on your phone?”

“Let me look…” he began – and scooped her up, depositing her on the bed. “Let’s have a good laugh where we are a little more comfortable sitting.”

John grabbed his phone off the charger and sat beside her as they opened the photo tab… and stared.

There were pictures of them in front of the Las Vegas sign, photos of them blurred, one of Emily laughing with a veil on her head, another with John posing next to a man dressed as Elvis…

She laughed openly at that photo as he blushed wildly… and then heard his intake of breath, causing her to glance at his phone.

There was a photograph of the two of them, lying there in the bed, her head on his shoulder and sound asleep… and he was smiling happily at the phone.

“Can you text me that one?” she whispered, feeling her cheeks grow warm. “I like that one a lot.”

“You got it,” he whispered softly, leaning down to kiss her forehead. “So, I guess we are married after all, aren’t we?”

“Yes.”

“Are you okay staying that way… because I think I am,” John said softly, looking at her. “We can figure this all out and take our time. I mean, in a few days I have to go back, and then we can keep doing what we are doing now.”

“Would it be terrible if I said that I really like that idea?” Emily asked, meeting his gaze. “I mean, we can still talk, still get to know each other, but if we give this a try, it kind of tethers you to…”

“… It ties you to me,” John finished tenderly and to her surprise, he moved and knelt beside the bed, taking her hand in his, as he gazed up at her nervously.

“Miss Emily… uh…Mrs. Emily Masden,” he corrected, causing her eyes to widen in awareness as he spoke. “Will you do me the honor ofremainingmarried to me? To try falling further in love… and I promise to cherish and honor you until death do us part?”

John hesitated, sliding the ring back onto her finger where it belonged, waiting and smiling nervously at her.

“Yes,” she smiled tearfully, nodding at him. He rose, hugging her tenderly before kissing her hesitantly, almost as if he was afraid to.

“Do you still want to head out to Lake Mead – or do you want to stay here?” he asked, glancing at his watch. “We can stop by CVS and get some water, some Gatorade to help with the headache…”

“You have a headache?”

“A killer one… I don’t drink often at all, and this has never happened before where I’ve gotten to the point that I’m blackout drunk.”

“Yeah, let’s stick with our plans so we don’t keep thinking about what happened and panicking. I mean, I guess we’ll treat this trip like a honeymoon, I suppose? I don’t know if I can even attend the convention now that I’ve missed the first day – and I’m not even upset about that in the slightest.”

“A honeymoon? I like that…” he admitted, smiling shyly. “I just wish I remembered more of what happened last night. I don’t remember saying our vows… but I remember a few other key moments.”

“Well, it’s kinda vice-versa for me,” she admitted wincing. “I remember saying ‘I do’ – but not to who – and I sure don’t remember anything else.”
