“Mr. and Mrs. Masden?”

They both looked over in surprise that their turn was already up. John reached over and took her hand in his, lacing his fingers with hers, and began to walk forward.

“We are renewing our vows,” he explained.

“Ahhh, congratulations,” the receptionist said. “How long?”

“Twenty-four hours…ish?” John grinned and looked at Emily, who burst out laughing at his sheepish expression – and the shocked one on the receptionist’s face.

“Well, okay then,” the woman blurted out happily.

“Any preference on magistrate?”

“No,” Emily said easily.

“Sinatra, please,” John interrupted, glancing at Emily. “You can have whatever you want.”

“I’m getting what I want,” she said softly, looking at him and seeing the understanding in his eyes – and she was. It might not be in the way she imagined, but she had certainly been swept off her feet by the prince of her dreams.

“Me too…” he whispered, leaning towards her for a kiss. “I love you.”

“Hey… hey…” the receptionist smiled. “Save it for the wedding. Do you want normal vows or custom?”

John glanced at her questioningly.

“Normal,” Emily said shyly. “I don’t have anything written out or ready.”

“Neither do I.”

“Nobody does,” the woman smiled in understanding. “We deal with a lot of spontaneity here… and you can just say what you want between each other, and that works most times.”

“Let’s do that,” John said, gazing at her. “Let’s just put it out there and be ourselves. If this is our wedding, let it be ours. Who knows what we said last time, and I would rather this be from the heart.”

Emily yanked a tissue from the box on the counter and nodded.

Gosh, John was such a romantic… and she was so lucky.

“Custom,” John said, digging out his wallet and paying for the ceremony, right before they were ushered back – and separated.

Emily was led to a small room with several other women standing there waiting, trying on gowns, and veils. She looked around, picked up a massive feather fan like one of the showgirls… and died laughing.

This was the craziest thing that someone could get married in – and then remembered she was wearing her swimsuit under her clothing from where they’d gone to Lake Mead.

“I’m gonna do it…” she whispered aloud, feeling like she’d lost her mind. John had such a reaction to her swimsuit – he would absolutely flip his lid seeing the peacock fan spread wide behind her like one of the Vegas showgirls with the gaudy, beaded, and plumed headpiece.

“Oh wow…” one of the other brides said as Emily began to change. “Mercy, hon… you’ve got some brass wearing that to get married in.”

“We are renewing our vows and I want to ‘wow’ the best man I’ve ever met… he’s an airman, and I don’t want him to forget me when he goes back to Afghanistan.”

“Oh, hang on then…” the other woman said, elbowing another lady preparing for her own upcoming marriage. “Let us help you get that on and pin it in place. You are so sweet, and I completely get what you are saying.”

“Madison… put that down and help us with this.”

Within minutes, Emily had the massive rhinestone harness over her shoulders and strapped around her stomach with glittering chains that draped over her stomach and hips. Her hair was completely brushed back and the helmet with all the plumage was put on her head and fastened under her chin.

She stared at her reflection in the mirror in surprise and wondered what John was going to say about this. They wanted these memories – and she was going to make sure that this stuck with him forever and a day.

“What size shoe do you wear, honey?”
