“Got it,” Maya’s hand appeared out of thin air as she snatched it and sauntered away. She took her time and Sophiadidn’t blame her. Considering all three demons on the opposing team were dead there wasn’t much of a rush to secure the flag.

Sophia ran her hands through her hair, grabbing clumps of mud from it and tossing them to the ground. “So does that tent of yours have a bath? I think I need one before I possibly die tomorrow,” she joked, knowing very well that Antonio’s tent, though large, didn’t have a bath.

“You’re not going to die tomorrow,” Antonio tightened his grip on her arm.

Sophia eyed where his hand held her arm curiously, not understanding why he seemed so emotional after this match. “If I do or don’t, I still want a bath tonight.” She didn’t plan on dying tomorrow - though it was very possible - but she also didn’t plan on sleeping in this filth.

“I’ll have one set for you.”

“In my room? Back at the palace?” When looked at Antonio hopefully she couldn’t help but notice something in his expression looked… different. She couldn’t point a finger on what exactly that was. She almost believed he looked as if heneededher, but she knew she had to be seeing things.

“In the tent.”

In the tent?“With you in there?” Sophia’s face heated at the thought. “My bathroom sounds like a better idea.”Muchbetter.

“If you want to bathe, you’ll bathe in my tent.” The intensity in his stare confused her. The smoldering look in his eyes almost made her believe hewantedher to bathe near him.

Shehadto be seeing things.

Sophia uncomfortably rubbed her arm when he released his hold on it. As usual, she wasn’t able to read this man at all. “Sure, just don’t disturb me.”

Antonio’s eyes softened as he ran a finger down her cheek. “Don’t disturb you? Ah, Sophia, there’s something I need to talk to you about-”

The horn sounded off - signifying the end of the match - before he had a chance to complete that sentence.

Sophia looked behind her and saw Maya had just placed the flag on their empty pole, officially signifying their win.

“Congratulations to the winners of tonight’s twenty-second match!” King Valaris announced to the crowd.

Antonio glanced down to the demon on the ground. “You killed him with one kick. Consider me impressed.”

“To be fair he was kind of dead already.” Sophia looked back to Maya, knowing she had already done something to weaken the demon before Sophia’s encounter with him. “Mostly,at least.”

“You defeated him on your own.” His eyes glistened as if with admiration.

Sophia tried not to stutter as she spoke next, his gaze affecting her more than it should, as usual. “Ah, I don’t know about that…”

He opened his mouth to speak, but it was Casper who spoke first, appearing beside them. “Sophia.”

She tried not to groan, still wanting nothing to do with Casper. Why would she want anything to do with the man who tossed her to another man without a care for her own feelings?

Well consider my feelings for you gone, she thought, giving Casper a nod that was far from friendly.

“What?” She didn’t try to hide the annoyance in her tone.

He took a step forward and she took a step back, inadvertently walking into Antonio, who gripped her sides when she did, almost possessively.

Casper’s eyes darted between her and Antonio. “Can I have a moment with her?”

“Make it fast, she needs rest.”

I need abathfirst,Sophia thought as Antonio released his hold on her and walked away.

Sophia tried to hide any ounce of emotion in her voice when she asked Casper, “What do you want?” but failed completely. There was no hiding how upset she was with him. “I thought I told you I wanted nothing to do with you.”

“You might have said something like that, but did you really believe I’d listen? I’m still your friend, Soph.”

“Sophia,” she corrected him.
