He’s about to see my favorite place in the world. I’m about to share it with someone else, she giddily thought to herself.

After leaving Lance, Antonio had asked Sophia to bring them somewhere far from others. It didn’t matter where, so long as they were far removed from the general population.

She had known exactly where she wanted to bring him.

The cove.

Mycove.

There was a cove on the eastern end of the island, which rested just beyond rolling grass hills and rugged rock walls. A single path - the path they were on - led to this cove.

She believed she was one of the few - if not one of theonly -beings who visited this cove considering she had always been totally alone whenever she did. It was as if only she could appreciate it for all its wonders - both hidden and not.

Her little secret.

Antonio and Sophia walked in silence. Though the silence didn’t bother Sophia, she was perfectly content in it, she could feel the tension that radiated off Antonio. In some attempt totake him out of the thoughts she knew were plaguing him, she asked, “Is Lance going to seek out his mate tonight?”

Sophia admittedly didn’t understand everything about a werewolf’s enhanced instincts on the night of the full moon, but she knew enough. It was difficult to separate a wolf from his mate on any given day. But doing so during the full moon?

Impossible.

At least, that’s what she believed. Though Lance acted as if he didn’t intend on seeing his mate tonight.

“No.” At Sophia’s questioning look, Antonio added, “Without his mate’s scent near, his beast won’t rise.”

“Hmm,” Sophia thought out loud as they continued forward, a brush of salty air letting her know they were close. “I thought nothing would stop a wolf’s beast from reaching his mate on the night of the full moon, and whether his mate was near or not didn’t matter.” That was what he led her to believe.

“This situation -oursituation - is different. Lance has been with her for centuries. I’ve never been with you before. Not like this. I haven’t claimed you yet and my beast won’t rest until I have. On a night like tonight? No amount of distance will stop my beast. Shit, no amount of distance will stopme.” The heat in his words, what they meant, had the hairs on Sophia’s arms standing.

“It sounds like you and your beast are in agreement, then,” Sophia tried to make light of the situation, knowing there was no need for him to continue stressing so much. “Maybe your beastisn’tso bad.”

He stopped her so suddenly she had to stifle a gasp. Before she could react he had turned her to face him so she was looking into eyes that seared into her with a fire that blazed with such a fervor she believed she couldfeelhis stare.

His fingers dug into her hair, clawing at it so tightly it was as if he believed she’d float away if he let go. “Understand this,Sophia. I’d do anything to have you for myself.Anything. I’m not losing you. Irefuseto fucking lose you. After I take you tonight, you’re mine. There’s no turning back for either of us. I want you to know this. It’s important that you know this.” The intensity in his words had her believing there was some deeper meaning behind what he was telling her and it was crucial she understood it.

“So I’m not yours untilafteryou take me? I have until then to check out?” Sophia was jesting, trying to balance out his intensity, which was so extreme it unnerved her.

Apparently, he didn’t find any humor in her words. In a grave tone, he said, “This is already a done deal,” repeating what he had told her the other day. “If you wanted out, you should’ve ran days ago.”

She already knew this was a done deal and she was okay with that. No, she was more than okay - she wasthrilled, excited to start a life with him.

Why didn’t he seem to understand that?

“I’m not sure why you’re giving me this warning if there’s nothing I can do about it. Why warn me at all?”

“It’s not a warning.” His eyes softened, the hold on her hair loosening. “I just…Fuck, Sophia. I just needed you to know.”

Wanting to quell whatever turmoil was wracking his brain, she lifted up onto her toes and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. “I alreadydoknow, Antonio. I’m still here.” She wasn’t going anywhere.

“You’re still here,” he breathed, seeming amazed that shewasstill there, standing in front of him, accepting him.

When she made an attempt to fall back onto her heels, he stopped her from doing so, wrapping his arm around her waist and holding her firmly in place.

Then he branded her with a kiss of his own, a deep and powerful kiss that spoke promises to her very soul. A kissrooted in a feral need that made her knees go weak, her body responding to him as it did every time they shared this sort of passion. She knew she wasn’t holding herself up anymore. She was only standing because Antonio willed it so, his strong arm wrapped so tightly around her she couldn’t fall if she tried.

He stepped forward, and suddenly her back was pressed against the edge of the cliff, her arms pinned above her head. “Youarestill here, aren’t you?” He whispered against her mouth between bouts of kisses so wild she was sure her lips were bruising. Gods, she relished when she’d see those bruises in the morning, remembering this moment when her heart was ablaze with passion for the man towering over her, crushing her body against the stone behind her.

Then, he bucked his hips forward, his massive length wedging between her legs.
