“Sure,” I said, flustered by his intense gaze. Owen and Jude watched with concerned looks as Furio put a hand on my back and led me outside and around the corner where we wouldn’t be seen from inside.

And then he crushed his lips against mine, pressing me back against the building. My body came alive at his touch, and then he pulled back as suddenly as he had begun.

“I have been craving that since you left Italy,” he breathed, nose nuzzling against my cheek. “Join me for lunch.”

“I think I can do that,” I said. “Some of the coders might wonder why I’m meeting with our principal investor, though.”

“To discusseTodo, of course,” he said simply. “Why else would I want to have lunch with you?”

I grinned all the way back to my desk, although Jude shot me a questioning look from his office.

I worked all morning, and then met Furio for lunch at an outdoor restaurant in the market district. The August air was cool but the sun made everything pleasantly warm. We ate fish and split a bottle of white wine, and then Furio convinced me to skip work.

“Surely someone at your level can take the afternoon off,” he said.

“It’s because of my high level that I can’t take a day off,” I replied, although I wasn’t fighting him very hard. “We have three new hires I need to meet with.”

“Give the work to someone else,” he said simply. “To be a manager is to delegate, yes?”

I didn’t require much convincing in the first place, not now that I was enjoying Furio’s charming presence, so I emailed Nancy and asked her to fill in for me. Then Furio and I went back to his hotel room three blocks away.

He was on me before the door to the hotel room closed, kissing my neck and grabbing my ass with both hands. I surged upward into his kiss, craving it more than I had known, and we fell backward onto the bed.

His lips were whispering along my core, licking their way down between my legs, when I grabbed a handful of his hair and pulled him back up.

“Wait. I have to tell you something.”

Furio leaned on an elbow and caressed my cheek. “Tell me, my dear. Tell me anything.”

I hesitated, then pushed forward with the terrible news. “I am seeing someone else. Two other men, actually.”

He grinned in surprise. “This is expected. A woman as desirable as you would of course have many suitors. My only surprise is that it is not more. Are you exclusive with either of these men? Clearly not, if there are two of them.”

“Here’s the thing,” I said. “It’s Owen March and Jude Cauthon.”

A brief flicker of surprise flashed behind his dark eyes, but then it was gone. “Amber Moltisanti. I tell you this, and I tell it to you honestly. It could be Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, and it would not stop me from doingthis.”

He dove back onto me with renewed hunger, and I closed my eyes and surrendered to his love.

Furio ravaged me like a man who was starving, bringing both of us to a quick and frenzied climax. He wasn’t done, and spent ten minutes kissing every inch of my body until he was hard again. Then we made love slowly and without hurry, the motions of our bodies going on and on until our skin was slick and our hair damp with sweat.

We ordered room service after, a charcuterie plate and chilled white wine, and we lay nude in bed while feeding pieces of food to each other.

“These olives… they are very good,” Furio said, surprised. “Not as good as in my home country, but very good, yes.”

“I’m glad theymeatyour approval.” Instead of placing a slice of ham in his mouth, I smacked it against his face. He frowned at me in confusion, and then abruptly barked a laugh.

“I get it!” he said. “Meat. It is the same word, but different.”

“Welcome to the wonderful world of English homonyms.” I stuffed the ham into his mouth, then popped a piece into my own. “Somehow, I suspect you did not come here just for a charity event.”

He leaned back on the pillows with an arm behind his back. “And why do you think this?”

“The event is tomorrow,” I pointed out. “You’re here early. And you said you aren’t flying home until next weekend.”

He grinned slyly at me. “Perhaps I have other motives for my visit, yes. You are certainly one of them.”

“Oneof the motives? What are the others?”
