“You will see as the week goes on.” He punctuated the statement with a wink.

“Tell me! I don’t like surprises!”

“The surprise does not only involve you,” he said. “You will see when you will see.”

I groaned. “Fine.”

“Would you like to accompany me to the event tomorrow?” he asked.

“Me? Isn’t it fancy?”

“Yes, of course.”

“I don’t know. I don’t like those kinds of events.”

“And you know this how?” he asked. “How many charity galas have you attended?”

“You have a point,” I said, considering the invitation.

Furio rolled his head toward me, his eyes wide and irresistible. “It would be the greatest honor of my life if you would join me for the event.”

“Thegreatesthonor of your life? Now I know you’re just puffing me up,” I said.

“Perhaps. But it would give me enormous pleasure to take you. I am only in town for the week, and I will be unable to see you on Wednesday or Thursday because of important meetings. Please join me at the gala?”

I leaned over and kissed him softly. His lips tasted salty and faintly of olive oil. “Okay. I would love to.”

He grinned like I had given him a wonderful gift.

“Hey, I wanted to talk about what I brought up earlier,” I said slowly. “How I’m kind of involved with Owen and Jude.”

“Yes, of course.”

“Are you really okay with that? It doesn’t bother you?”

He gave me a puzzled look. “I do not see why it would.”

“They’re my bosses. And kind of your business partners. I thought it might make things weird.”

“It is not weird at all,” he said simply. “This is perfectly natural, of course. You are a strong-willed woman, Amber. You may be with whoever you wish.”

His agreeableness was worrying me, so I carefully asked, “Areyouseeing anyone else? It’s totally fine if you are, obviously.”

Furio cupped my cheek, caressing tenderly with his thumb. “At this moment, and since your visit to Italy, my heart has belonged to no one else. I do not see that changing for a very long time.”

My heart swelled at his response. Itwouldhave been fine if he was seeing other people… But I found myself very happy that he was not.

“My company is going very well since your visit,” he said, changing subjects. “eTodois in a strong position after your skilled advice.”

“I’m glad,” I replied. “It has alotof potential. Even outside of the pending integration with the ACS platform.”

“Of course,” he replied. “Which is why I would like to hire you to work there full-time.”

His tone was so relaxed that the bombshell took a few moments to sink in. Then I jerked on the pillow and sat up to face him directly.

“Wait, seriously?”

“You said it yourself: the company has immense potential,” he said, still leaning back on one arm. “I would trust its path forward considerably more if you were running it.”
