The girls all start to lose their shit, crying and jumping around as they head up to the stage to accept their trophy. I look at Scarlet. "Did he just say we won?"
"He sure did, baby." She pulls me into a hug, and I squeal, so excited that I finally achieved something I set out to do. I'm not a complete failure.
BRANDON
I HOLD MY GLASS up to Miles. "To another epic win." I clink my drink with his and take a swig. The Jameson goes down smoothly. It's been a long week and my head pain has only eased off in the last two days, but today's win has put me in an excellent mood.
"Can't see us being beaten now. This season’s ours. The team couldn't have done it without you."
"Don't make his head any bigger than it already is." Jett smirks. He’s settled in the pool chair across from us with a beer.
It’s a warm night for November, and we have taken our celebration out to the patio beside the pool. Cassandra messaged to say she's on her way home, but I won't be able to relax properly until she's back within the walls of this house.
Leo stands by the door, watching us. "I’m heading into The Joker to meet up with our problem," he says through a puff of smoke.
Our problem, AKA Piper Acevedo. I personally don't think she is a threat to anything, but if she’s as nuts as her brother, then Leo is right to be keeping an eye on her. I nod. "Let me know if you need me."
He smirks. "I've got it under control."
"Good." Because tonight I feel like celebrating.
As he walks back through the kitchen, I see Cassandra and Kobe appear. He has an arm slung around her shoulder casually, and my hackles rise. He's my best friend, and I know I have nothing to worry about—it's just him being overly flirtations like he is with every chick in his life—but I don't like it. Any guy near her makes me stabby.
I stand, walking inside toward them. She must notice the look on my face because she shrugs out of his grip and comes running toward me. "All winners in this house tonight." She beams, leaning up to peck me on the mouth.
Kobe passes us on his way out back.
I pull her into me, one hand at her neck and the other her waist and kiss her properly. A claiming kiss that tells every other asshole in this house tonight that she is mine.
"Wow, should make sure the girls win more often if I get a welcome home like that." She laughs. "You must have missed me today."
"I did. It was too quiet around here without you and the blaring music."
"Well, I'm back now. What did I miss?"
"Not a lot. Our team won, so we’re just celebrating with a drink."
"I could do with one of those, it's been a long day. What are you drinking?"
I take her hand and bring her with me out back and pour her a drink.
I turn around to find her in Miles’s arms. For fuck’s sake. "Congratulations, Cass. See? I told you there was nothing to worry about."
"You did." She smiles at him sweetly, and pain settles in my jaw. I'm not happy about their little friendship, and what makes it worse is knowing she was willing to sleep with him at the start of the year. My deathly gaze focuses in on him as she stares back at him. Even after I warned him off her, he's still sweet on her, I can see it by the way he looks at her. Like she’s some precious jewel. I recognize it because it's the same way I look at her, and he's either really stupid or just so into her that he doesn't care what's going to happen to him.
"You should have seen them, Miles. They were incredible."
I move in between them, handing her the drink.
He looks to me, and I see it; he's just worked out that I know his secret. "Hey, Jett, didn't you want to show Miles your gym?"
"Yeah, can you?” Miles says, clearing his throat and backing up a step. “I'm thinking of putting one in at my place. I would kill to see your set-up."
"I was interested to stick around and watch what Brandon did to you, having just worked out that you’re into his girl, but this could be fun too."
Miles’s eyes flick to me then Cassie. "I'm not, we're just friends," he stutters out.
"Good, then from now on you'll keep your hands off her, or you will see what I do to people who try to take what's not theirs."
