Cassie steps in front of me, her hands going to her hips. "Umm, are you fucking kidding me right now? We are fucking friends, Brandon, stop being a dick. I'm not your possession to warn others away from, and you’d better realize that or we will have a major problem."

I stare down at her. She’s taking his side? "We have a major problem."

"Miles, come on, we can continue this party in the gym," Jett calls to him, and I feel him leave but my concentration is on Cassandra. Her green eyes shine brightly as she death-stares me.

"Wait, I'm coming too," I hear Kobe call after them.

"Don't go ruining a celebration by being a jealous prick," Cassie snaps.

There is no one else in this city who would get away with talking to me the way she does. I take a step closer to her, and she takes one step back. "Your problem is you're oblivious to what's going on around you. Can’t you see the way he looks at you? He has since the first day he watched your ass sway down the hallway at school. I have held my tongue until now, but knowing we all still have to work in such close proximity with each other, something needed to be said. Before I actually lost my shit and did something about it."

"This is you not losing your shit? Geez." She rolls her eyes like I'm the one being overdramatic.

I take a step closer to her, and again she steps backward out of my reach. "You have no idea what I'm capable of, my little Strawberry Shortcake."

Her eyes are wide, but she’s not scared of me, not in the slightest. If anything, I think she's challenging me. "Why don't you tell me then, Quarterback? Because I'm sick of being the only one around here who doesn't know anything about the man I’m with. I'm not scared. Show me who you are."

She's challenging me. I take another step toward her, and she grabs a hold of me and steps backward, causing us to stumble back and fall into the pool behind her. We both come up spluttering from the hit of cool water.

"Why the hell did you do that?"

She shrugs with a massive smile on her face. "Thought you could use some cooling off.” She’s on her back, swimming away from me. “You know, kill the overprotective switch that has been on permanently since we hooked up. I’m over it, Brandon.”

She’s over it. I swim toward her, catching her quickly and cornering her at the edge of the pool. “You better learn to deal with it, Shortcake, cause I’m not changing. I have gone years without you, and now that you’re mine, no other fucker is going to steal you away from me.” I pin her with my hips.

“You’re right, they won’t, because I'm not interested in any other dude, I love you. So it doesn't matter how they feel. You need to trust me that I will be loyal to you and stop worrying about anyone else. I'm starting to feel suffocated."

I stroke the wet hair out of her eyes then drag my thumb down her jawline and over her lips, and she sucks it into her mouth. Her eyes are hooded and full of lust. And I'm fucking hard as a rock under my pants.

She lets go of my thumb with a pop. "I've worked you out this week."

I loosen my grip on her, and her legs slide around my waist. "Oh yeah, how's that?" I gently rock into her.

"You use sex to distract me when you don't want to answer my questions."

"I just want to make you happy, Shortcake, and answering your questions won't. But tipping you over the edge with my mouth," I kiss her lips, "my fingers," I kiss her again, "or my dick, I know that's guaranteed to make you very happy." She melts into me, and I know I have won her over again.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

CASSANDRA

Shakingmyhead,Ismirk at him checking out his reflection in a shop window as we pass. "You know you're hot as the quarterback; I might need to carry a weapon to beat the other girls off with. Cause they’re going to be swooning all over you tonight."

He turns to face me. "Don't think that suits your costume tonight. Angels are supposed to be heavenly, not homicidal."

"True, and I'm not you," I joke, but maybe it's too fresh after the fight we had last weekend. "I guess everyone has a little bad side. Even angels can turn violent if they feel the need to protect what is theirs."

"Did you just admit I'm yours? And it's okay to be protective."

"No, not what I said. But my blood boils and I feel violent when I see other chicks flirting with you," I say lightheartedly, even though I'm pretty serious. I don't like the idea of other girls anywhere near him, but I'm not crazy like he can be.

"I'll make sure I don't let that happen. Wouldn't want to ruin the surprise I have for you when I’m done with Leo and Axel… by having to break you out of prison."

I smirk at the thought of him breaking me out. I know he would. I get the impression he would do just about anything for me. "I don't understand why you even need to go to this stupid meeting. Just because you live with these guys doesn't mean you need to be a part of whatever shit they have going on."

He comes to a stop just outside of a red door with gold lettering spelling Queen of Hearts across it. "I'm just there to keep the peace tonight. Do you really think it's a good idea to have Leo and Axel in the same room as each other without a buffer?"

I shrug. What would I know about any of it. "I just wish you could hang with me and Jas, it would be so much more fun."
