Leaning in closer to him, I sneer, “Do you know who my family is?”

He puts on a brave face as he answers, “No”

Moving back some, I inform him, “I am the eldest of the Greece Kourakos Family.” If this man’s eyes could’ve popped out, they would have. His body starts to tremble.

“Please, forgive me. I didn’t know the bookstore was affiliated with your family. Had I known, I would’ve walked away. I’ve always had nothing but the upmost respect for the Kourakos family.”

I see the sincerity in his eyes. He didn’t want to lose his life because of his bad decision to follow his bosses’ orders.

“Cut him lose,” I instruct the guard standing next to him.

“Are you sure that’s what you want to do?” Basil asks, coming to my side.

“Yeah, I’m sure,” I reply as the man stands, rubbing his wrists from the rope burns.

“What’s your name?” I ask with a don’t fuck with me sneer as I grab his shirt and draw him closer to me.

“I’m Malichi Galanis. My mother is African American, and my sperm donor is Greek. My Greek father never acknowledged me after I was born but I do not shun that part of my Greek heritage because I know who I am,” Malichi relies, standing taller with pride.

Pointing my finger at him, “Well,” I tell Malichi, “today is your lucky day. You no longer work for this Mr. Hollis asshole. You now work for me. You are going to tell me everything about him down to what kind of fucking chewing gum he buys. Am I understood?”

“Yes, sir and thank you,” he returns, extending his hand for a handshake.

I stare at his hand, then back to his face. “I’ll shake your hand when you’ve proven your loyalty to me, but know this,” I close the small space between us. “If you try to cross me, I will kill you. Now, tell me about Conrad Hollis.”

Chapter 9

Deanna

Once Yiorgos and Basilpulled off, I did as he requested and shut the bookstore down. My normal routine would’ve been to wipe down the table and chairs, then put away any books that the customers might’ve left sitting around, but like before I just turned off the lights. I put the money from the register in the safe after counting it down. Taking Yiorgos’ advice, I called Lena and my other staff and told them the store would be closed tomorrow. When they asked if anything was wrong, I didn’t want to worry them, so I told them since they have been doing such a good job, I wanted to reward them with a day off with pay. That eased their minds as they thanked me and said I was the best boss ever. Honestly, they deserved it, I just wished it wasn’t under these circumstances.

The whole time I was doing this, Yiorgos stayed on my mind. I should’ve been concerned about what he was doing to those men rather than finding his bossy, no nonsense demeanor sexy as hell. And when he kissed my cheek, I had to lock my knees to keep from falling into him. Clearly the man is dangerous, and I should avoid him at all costs, but Yiorgos Kourakos has gotten my attention and I want to know everything about him.

After setting the alarm, I went into the stockroom where the door to my apartment is located. I pulled out my keyring and used the key to unlock it. No one other than my parents and Zoe have a key. Opening the door, I stepped into the entrance hall, then closed the door, relocking it. I took to the stairs that lead to my sanctuary. After what transpired earlier, I was ready to take a shower, jump into my favorite pajamas and curl up with a good book before sleep took over me.

Three hours later, I’m relaxing on my couch, enjoying a glass on Pinot, engrossed in an Interracial mafia book, Nicola DeLuca that’s a part of the Savage Bloodline Boxset with other amazing authors. I must give L. Loren her props. She has everything from romance, action and lots of naughty scenes, something I particularly like in the books I read. As I turn the page to where it’s about to get steamy, my cellphone starts to ring. I sigh with frustration. I contemplate answering it because I want to read the juicy bits of the book but decide to answer it when I see Yiorgos’ name on the screen.
