Chapter 12

Yiorgos

Ikissed Deanna, thentold her I would be back after speaking with Tahir. I know she and her parents wanted to hear my explanation about her ring, but we will talk about it later. After leaving them in my bedroom, I led Tahir downstairs to the kitchen where Basil, Zoe and Malichi were snacking on a meat and cheese tray the chef prepared for them.

I hope whatever he had to say wouldn’t take long because I had a motherfucker waiting to meet the blade of my razor. My men who were chasing the car last night were able to shoot out the tires of the vehicle. The driver lost control of the car and ended up crashing into a light pole at full speed. The driver didn’t make it, but the passenger did, and my men have him waiting for me at the warehouse.

“Zoe, Dee was asking for you,” Tahir tells her.

“Okay,” she returns as she picks up her plate and glass, then stands. She walks over to the sink and places them in. Zoe then approaches Tahir and hugs his waist. “It’s so good to have you back big Bro.”

He hugs her back, stating, “It’s good to be back.”

Zoe smiles as she lets him go. “We’ll catch up soon.”

“Of course.”

She playfully punches his arm before leaving out of the kitchen.

Turning to Basil and Malichi, I tell them, “We need to go to my office.”

They nod, rising.

“Follow me,” I motion to Tahir.

We exit the room, going to the hallway that leads to my office. Opening the door, I step in, holding my hand out to the two chairs in front of my desk.

“Have a seat.”

Tahir takes the chair on the right as Basil sits in the other. Malichi stands behind them.

Going over to the bar, I ask, “Tahir, can I offer you something to drink?”

He holds up his hand, lightly waving it from side to side. “No, thank you. I don’t drink.”

I dip my head as I grab the decanter of cognac, pour two fingers in a rocks glass. “Basil, you can get your own and Malichi, you’re on duty.”

Placing the decanter back on the bar, I grab my glass, going to sit at my desk. I take a sip, then sit it on the coaster.

“What is it that you want to talk to me about, Tahir? I would think you would want to spend this time explaining to your family the reason for not being with them these last five years.” I state, pulling out my cigar case, then taking one out.

Tahir regards me before, replying, “My family will know all of that in due time, but what I’m here to tell you is I know who you are.”

I pull hard on the cigar as I light it, staring at Tahir with amusement. He’s been gone for how long? I’ve only been here for a couple of months, so how could he possibly know me?

“I highly doubt that. My brother and I just recently moved to the city,” I chuckle, blowing out smoke.

With a straight face, Tahir says, “That may be true but that doesn’t change the fact that I know who you are.”

Taking another pull from the cigar, then lay it in the ashtray on the desk, I slowly release the smoke, eyeing him. Wrapping my hand around the glass again, I take another drink. “And how do know who I am.”

Tahir looks over at Basil who is intently studying him, then back at me. “Unlike my little sisters who were too innocent to run the streets, I did. You run into all types of people in the shit I used to be around. You learned what gang ran what area, which dealer held down a corner and most of all which family ran the city.” He narrows his eyes at me. “I might not know you personally, but I do know if your last name is Kourakos, then you’re a part of the Kourakos Greek Mafia Family. So, what I want to know is, was the shit at Dee’s bookstore some type of retaliation against you because if it was that’s going to be a big fucking problem for you.”
