The others laugh but I state, “I thought there were only six senses.”

He smirks. “To the average human there are but my seventh came out when I knew Mike and his men were good people and this eighth one was dead on about Hollis.” His eyes might not have been blue like mine, but they still hold the same calculating, devious twinkle. “Conrad Hollis is the son of District Attorney Hollis. Unlike his little brother who I had the opportunity to meet at Giordano’s, Conrad is the oldest of the two and the black sheep of the family.”

Resting comfortably in the chair in front of the desk, I urge, “Do tell.”

Alistair’s face lights up as he continues, “The fucker dropped out of college his junior year and started living off of the money mommy and daddy gave him. When he turned twenty-five a trust his grandfather left for him was turned over which is how he began buying businesses that were on the verge of bankruptcy. His greed only grew from there. Hollis began to extort owners to get what he wanted, and he has been successful doing so, that is until he came across Deanna.”

Pride makes my chest swell. Hollis obviously didn’t do his fucking homework when he tried to use his so-called scare tactics on my Kitten. He didn’t know her claws were going to come out, ready to cut into him but she can retract them now. I’m here to do the dirty work for her.

Basil plops down in the chair next to me, inquiring, “So, does this District Attorney Hollis know we’re about to send his son to the pits of Hell?”

Alistair laughs. “Hell, no. We still want him on our side. If DA Hollis had an inkling of what’s about to go down, he might try to stab us in the fucking back which we’re not worried about. We have so much shit to destroy his ass, any kind of retaliation from him would be suicidal. DA Hollis portrays himself as this loving family man, a good husband to his wife and the perfect father to the spoiled brat son he only acknowledges when it suits him. It’s all a façade. Hollis likes to attend extravagant members only parties with his male lover, and we have proof on the many cases he’s tampered with to get a win. Other’s might see him as a person trying to rid the streets of crime but he’s one of the biggest criminals walking around Chicago.”

Turning to Tech, I say, “Show us what you have.”

He happily obliges, opening his laptop, turning it around for us to see. The first picture that appears is of a spacious two-story house.

“This is Hollis’ home in the South suburbs of Country Club Hills. As you can see there is a gate around the perimeter but that won’t stop us. The gate isn’t electrical nor is there security. He does, however, have an alarm system set up on the house,” Tech states.

Tech spins the laptop back towards him. “The next picture is of the building he fronts for his illegal business activity which is why you couldn’t find anything about him on the web. Hollis made sure to keep his name out of anything that pertained to acquiring the business’. The house, the building, and the business’ he has acquired are listed under a phantom name. He had to use a good IT person to pull all of that off without getting noticed by the Feds, but they aren’t as good as me.” He laughs. “I was able to track Hollis’ cellphone, so we now know his exact location.”

“Where’s the asshole right now?” I growl.

Tech turns the laptop back in front of him, then taps away on the keys.

“Right now, he’s at a barber shop not too far from his building,” he replies, twisting the laptop around, pointing to the blinking red dot on the screen.

“I say we head there now and light the place up,” Alistair eagerly says with a crooked smile.

Normally, that’s what I would do, but this is a different playing field. Not only is the sun still out, but the barber shop is in a very busy part of the city. Not to mention by the time we’d get there, Hollis would already be gone.

Massaging my beard, I state, “Tech keeps tracking him. Hollis will eventually go home or to his office building. I need to get Deanna set up in one of the condos. I think it may be wise to have the rest of her family stay there too while Tahir takes care of his shit. Tech, can you get with Tahir later for him to give you all the shit on a guy named Dutch?” He nods.

“What do you want to do with the asshole the men are holding at the warehouse?” Basil asks.

With no remorse, I respond, “Kill him.”

I got up from my seat and left the office with the others behind me. We went back to the dining room and found Deanna and her family hugging one another as they silently cried. I’m sure this was the result of Tahir’s confession. It was probably hard for him to tell them what he had been through, but they needed to know. I can’t imagine having a family member disappear without any explanation, wondering if they were dead. Those years he was missing had to have taken a toll on all of them.

Now that they knew Tahir’s situation, it was time for me to convince Deanna’s parents and Zoe that it was imperative for them to stay at the condos until all was clear with this Dutch situation.

“But that’s no different than putting all of us in witness protection like Tahir was,” Zoe argued. “I’m not hiding from no damn Dutch. He can try to come after me if he wants too, but I got something for his ass.”

“Zoe, you won’t be in witness protection,” Tahir told her. “Believe me, I know. At least we’ll be together. I didn’t have anyone, so there is no comparison.”

Basil went to her, adding, “Tahir’s right, Zoe. If Dutch catches wind that Tahir has resurfaced, the first place he’s going to check is your parent’s house since that was the last place Tahir lived. When he can’t find him there his next course of action is to find out where you and Deanna live.”

Zoe finally agreed after I told her she would still be able to go to work and other places. She probably wouldn’t have if she knew there would be security following her, so I kept that little detail to myself.

I thought Deanna’s parents were going to put up a fight too, but they surprised me. Mr. and Mrs. Lowe said it would be a mini vacation, staying downtown.

Once we had that taken care of Alistair decided that he, Mike, and Tech would stay at the other vacant condo. That way we could all be in one spot. Before we left for the city, he took me, Basil, Malichi, Mike and Tech in Yiannis’ secret room that contained an arsenal of weapons. Yiannis had showed us the room when he gave us a tour of the house before he moved to Dallas, and I was very impressed by it. He had damn near every weapon, knife, and explosive you could think of in this hidden room. Alistair pulled out two large duffle bags and we started filling them with items we thought would come in handy tonight.

As Mike and Tech loaded the bags in the back of the SUV Yiannis’ men used to pick them up from the airport, Zoe and their parents got in Basil’s Denali. Malichi chose to ride with Alistair and the others while Tahir decided to ride with me and Deanna in my Challenger.

“Tahir, I know your long ass legs are not comfortable back there. You could’ve ridden with Zoe and Basil,” Deanna teased on our way to the condos.

“I’m fine, Dee,” Tahir said. Glancing in the rearview mirror, he did look uncomfortable with his long legs turned to the side. “I chose to ride with the two of you because I want Yiorgos to tell me the plan for tonight because I know he has one.”
