“Yes, my cousins Balthazar and Xander were there as well as Blade who works for Mike,” he stated as the stood, turning towards me. “Kitten, are you okay? Did that motherfucker or his people do anything to you because if they did, I promise I will kill everyone remaining in their families?”

Walking up to him, I placed my palm on his cheek. “No baby, they didn’t.”

He placed his hand over mine as he wrapped his other arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him. Yiorgos closed his eyes as he laid his forehead against mine as his voice trembled, “It’s funny how you never know how much you need someone in your life until the threat of them being taken away damn near causes you to lose your fucking mind. I wasn’t going to lose you, Deanna. Not then, not now, not ever.”

Tears filled my eyes seeing my Ruthless Greek in such a state. Moving my other hand to clasp his other cheek, I restated what Tahir told Dutch before he killed him, “And you never will.”

Epilogue

Yiorgos

Two months later

“Kitten, are you ready to go?” I shout from the living room, fully dressed in a pair of slacks and a dress shirt. I have on a set of the Tech’s cuff links because you can never be too sure there won’t be any problems.

“Yeah, babe. Here I come,” she returns from our bedroom.

This has now become a part our normal routine in the mornings. After having breakfast together, I’m usually the one dressed and ready to go downstairs to meet our driver on time. I don’t know what my woman does in the meantime after breakfast, but we can never leave at the agreed upon hour. I’m a patient man, so I just roll with it. We are both bosses, so who’s going to fire us? This morning, however, the driver isn’t dropping us off at the bookstore or my office. We’re heading to a different destination.

As I wait for her to finish getting ready, I sit in my recliner, lighting up a precut cigar I’ve grown fond of as the shit from the previous months flash in my head.

After that shit with Hollis and Dutch, I thought Deanna was going to run as far away from me as possible, but she proved me wrong. I think if she would have, I would’ve pulled an Alistair and had Tech draw up the forms for us to be legally married.

Like I predicted, two weeks after the shit with Dutch, his decomposing body along with others was found in the house. After getting numerous complaints of a rotten smell coming from the house, the police finally went in. Since it was found out Tahir was back in town, the police picked him up and took him to the station. After hours of questioning Tahir, he was cleared of any involvement. Tech produced fake documents proving Tahir was nowhere around the house at the time of the murders. The documents were so authentic the police didn’t question them. They eventually closed the case as a drug deal gone wrong. Tahir has moved back to Chicago with his family and has taken a position with my company.

DA Hollis was removed from his position after District Attorney’s office received multiple documents disclosing his criminal activity. There were even pictures of his extra marital activities. The once highly acclaimed DA had been reduced to a pariah of society. Some even wondered if he had a hand in Conrad’s death since their relationship was so volatile. Now he’s awaiting his trial in the county jail with some of the same criminals he sent to jail.

Malichi has been running the Westside like the true Captain I knew he would be. He’s moved his mother and younger siblings into a modest home in the South suburbs while he bought a house for himself in the West suburbs to be close enough to oversee his operations. He’s definitely not like his poor excuse of a father was.

I held my breath but wasn’t surprised Deanna didn’t put up a fight when I suggested we move into one of the condos. She happily agreed and now we’re staying in the one we previously shared the first time we were here. Although I like it here, I want to have a home of our own built with a huge front and backyard for our future children to play in. Yes, I said children as in plural. Deanna and I plan to have at least three or four. I just hope we can make it down the alter before it happens.

The morning after the shit with Dutch, Deanna and I were awakened by my cellphone buzzing. I picked it up and there was a message from Balthazar saying we needed to get up because the Elders wanted everyone to come to their condo for breakfast.

We hopped out of bed, took a quick shower together, then got dressed. Once we had our clothes on, we left the condo, making our way to the condo Father and the others was at. I’m sure Deanna was equally surprised when we walked in and saw the rest of my Kourakos family along with her parents, Zoe and Tahir drifting around the room. Even Brogan was there with his fiancée Kia, his daughter Gemma, and Rory. Hell, even his parents, Patty and Aine were there.

Balthazar’s wife, Nina with baby Balthazar snuggled tightly against her, spotted us, and came over as the others continued to talk and congregate. Throwing my hands up, I said in a loud voice, “What is this?” Baby Balthazar jumped in his mother’s arms.
