The room became quiet as their eyes fell upon Deanna and me.

I felt bad for scaring the baby, so I told Nina, “I’m sorry, Nina. I didn’t mean to scare Baby Zar. I just didn’t expect everyone to be here.”

Nina in all smiles said, “Don’t worry about it, Yiorgos. We all just wanted to be here for support.” She turned to Deanna. “You must be Deanna. I’ve heard some things about you, girl. I’m Nina, Balthazar’s wife.”

Deanna smiled as she responded, “It’s nice to meet you, Nina. I hope whatever you’ve heard is all good.”

Nina giggled. “Hell, yeah. You’re going to have to tell us your side on how you jacked up Malichi and the other idiot at your store. I already like you. You don’t take no shit and you aren’t scared to throw them hands. You’re going to fit nicely into this family. If Yiorgos has told you anything about our family, I hope he’s warned you about GeeGee. I don’t care how much your stomach is touching your back, no one and I repeat no one eats before GeeGee says it’s time.”

“He didn’t tell me that, but I’m glad you did. I’ll keep that in mind,” Deanna laughed, playfully elbowing me. If I would’ve known everyone was going to be here, especially GeeGee, I would have told her GeeGee’s golden rule.

“I hope so, because GeeGee don’t play. Just ask some of the men standing around here. Their asses are hungry as shit, but you couldn’t pay them to walk over there and pick up a slice of bacon,” Nina laughed, pointing to the extra-large dining table that wasn’t there before filled with food. She continued to laugh as we followed her over to the younger women in the family.

After Deanna met Selene, Janae, Hailey, Sabre, Kia, and Xander’s sister Karisa it was time for her to meet the elder women of the family. As we approached them, Mother, Althaia, GeeGee, Ismena, and Aine became quiet. Mrs. Lowe stood next to them sipping a mimosa.

“Hello, Mother,” I greeted, leaning over to kiss her cheeks.

“Hello, son,” she said, placing her palm on my cheek as she gave me a motherly smile.

“This is Deanna, my fiancée,” I introduced.

Deanna squeezed my hand as she spoke, “Hello, Mrs. Kourakos. It’s very nice to meet you.” She held out her hand to shake Mothers.

Mother looked at her extended hand, then snickered. “Oh, honey we’re family now. We don’t shake hands, we hug.” Mother opened her arms, welcoming Deanna. Kitten smiled as she embraced her.

When they let each other go, I start introducing Deanna to the other ladies but was cut off by GeeGee.

“Boy, we already know who she is. All I can say is, you better treat her right or you’re going to find a few lumps across your head.” The other women laughed, including Mother. GeeGee then pointed at Deanna, stating, “That one right there, has already earned her spot in this family, now it’s up to you to make sure she stays with us.”

I grinned, sliding my arm around Deanna’s waist before stating, “GeeGee to you and all the women standing here, I will humbly take every lump Deanna inflicts upon me in order to keep her in my life. I’m not perfect but having her with me, I will get as close to it as I possibly can.”

Delighted with my response, the elder women clinked their glasses together with approval. GeeGee may not be an Elder by our Greek standards, but every male or female took her advice to heart which unofficially makes her one. I don’t know what type of influence she had over my family but at the end of the day we all know she’s only looking out for us. I greatly appreciated her for that, and she will always be family to me.

Devyn and Gemma came out of nowhere, looking cute as ever. “Hi, Yiorgos,” Devyn greeted as she hugged me.

“Hello, little cousin. How are you?” I returned, hugging her back.

“I’m fine,” she replied, letting me go, then Gemma hugged me too.

“Hello, little one,” I told her.

“Hi, Yiorgos,” her sweet voice chimed.

Devyn grinned at Deanna, stating, “You must be Deanna, Yiorgos’ fiancée. You’re pretty.”

“Thank you,” Deanna blushed.

“Kitten, this is my little cousin Devyn. She’s Hailey, Alistair and Balthazar’s sister,” I informed, then chuckled when Deanna looked at me puzzled. “I’ll explain it later. And that’s Gemma, Brogan’s daughter.”

“It’s nice to meet you both and you two are too cute.”

“Thank you,” they sang with smiles.

Devyn turned to GeeGee and said, “Can we please eat? Everyone’s here now.”

GeeGee exhaled loudly before replying, “Yes, Devyn. You and Gemma go and let everyone know.”

“Yes, ma’am,” they said, turning to go over to the Nina and the ladies.
