“Do you need a to-go container?” Booker taunts Batista.

Batista picked up the last two ribs and stared at them, then at Booker. He pulls the ribs apart, pointing one at Booker, saying, “I never leave leftovers, whether it’s food or otherwise.”

Batista attacks the ribs like a ravenous man. I’ve never seen Booker eat a full slab of ribs and for Batista to outdo him shocks me. Maybe their visit here today was coincidental, because the way Batista just ate, you would think the man hadn’t eaten in days.

As Batista wipes his mouth, he says, “Nothing left for to-go containers, but I would like to put in an order for the same to take home.”

I don’t know where Jaden snuck up from, but she was there to take his order.

“Can I put in anything else for the rest of the table?’ she asks.

When no one replies, Domencio hands her his black card.

“Please bill everything to my card.”

Wow, talk about doing it big, but I was going to do it one step further. Addressing Jaden, I state, “If that is the case, add an order of the Cajun boiled seafood mix, a slab of ribs, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, and roasted corn.”

Momma and daddy look at me as if I’ve lost my mind by ordering extra food on his tab. Domencio came in here like he was the top of the food chain, so why not eat off of him?

“Anything else?” Jaden questions.

Domencio places his hands on the table, looking at momma and daddy.

“Is there anything else you would like to order? Whatever you decide, it’s on me. I know since you own the place you don’t have to pay, but we ate a lot of food and that equates to money loss to the restaurant. Please, let me do this.”

“I’ll have the same seafood boil Sydney just ordered,” momma says.

Domencio looks over at daddy who responds, “I’ll have the high-end surf and turf. The Tomahawk steak and the Alaskan King Crab.”

Jaden glances over at Domencio as if to get his approval for the order but Booker chimes in.

“Jaden, since he’s,” he points to Domencio “taking care of the bill, make my to-go order for the New Orleans char-grilled oysters.”

As Jaden jots down our orders, I tell her, “Jaden, can you put a rush on my order?”

“Of course, Sydney,” she replies, then turns and leaves.

Domencio squeezes my hand under the table. “Are you in a rush to leave?”

“I have other business to attend to,” I lie.

“Are you sure?” he questions.

“Positive,” I return, digging my stiletto nails into his thigh. A mischievous smile spreads across his face. I don’t know if it means he was enjoying the pain or if it’s a nonverbal promise of payback. Whichever it is he finally releases my hand.

Having had enough, I tell my parents, “Momma, daddy it was good seeing you two as always. I’m stuffed, so I’m going to take the rest of the day to relax.” Standing, I tell daddy, “I’ll email last week’s numbers tomorrow.”

Booker also stands as I grab my purse, then go over and kiss each of them goodbye.

Daddy winks, saying, “Thank you Lil Princess, I’ll be looking out for them. In the meantime, I really think you should take Domencio up on his offer to make sure we’re not going after the same properties. Give him one of your business cards.”

Why? Why? Why?

I plaster on a fake smile before digging into my purse for a business card. Turning towards Domencio, I held it out to him.

“Thank you, Sydney. I’ll be in touch,” he says as he reaches for the card. When he takes it, his fingers caress mine before he takes it.

“Hopefully you can do business together in the future,” daddy says. “If you can’t, then we’ll continue on like we’ve been doing.”
