Of course, like anyone who was so used to keeping things the same, it took a while for daddy to get on board, but with the help of momma and Booker and even Uncle Elijah giving his opinion on the subject, daddy finally agreed.

Daddy met with his connections to end their business relationships. It wasn’t easy to leave that life. My daddy upset a lot of people by going legit, but in the end, we were able to leave without killing anyone. The Morgan’s were officially done with dealing drugs and moving on to bigger and better things. Little did I know back then, one of the connections was Domencio’s father.

“Well, sir, let’s just say the officials in New Orleans were trying to do everything in their power to bring down my family’s businesses. When I took over, I decided to move our headquarters here.”

Daddy takes a sip out of his glass, then asks, “So when you saybusinesses, does that include the same business I used to do with your father?”

“That part, yes. I ended that before moving here. We’re still in the arms trade but we also deal with casinos and acquiring investment properties. I focus on running Blue Bayou and the other gaming houses I own around the city. I’m more into investing or buying businesses that will turn a good profit. I do, however, go home several times a month to check the status of the companies we have there,” Domencio states.

Daddy nods, saying, “That’s interesting. Sydney has redirected our family business in the same direction as well since she has become the CEO of our company.”

In my peripheral vision, I see Domencio tilt his head towards me and grin. “So, you’re into investment properties too?”

I turn my head to face him. Big mistake because he is more handsome up close and personal.Get your shit together, Sydney. Don’t fall for his fake charm. He’s probably here to get back the money I won last night.

Getting myself together, I look at him and smirk. “Yes, I am.”

Domencio raises his brow, saying, “Maybe we can join forces on some future projects.”

“I don’t think...” I start but daddy cuts me off.

“I think that would be a good idea. Although Tommaso and I worked together on the illegal side of business, we had a good business relationship, so I’m sure the two of you would be the same,” he said, causing my jaw to drop.

“Booker and I work fine alone, daddy. You know that. We don’t need to partner up with anyone,” I declare.

“It’s fine, Mr. Morgan. I totally understand. Let’s just hope we don’t go after the same properties,” Domencio laughs, but then becomes serious. “But if Sydney will allow it, I would like to have a business meeting with her, so we can compare perspectives to keep that from happening.”

Daddy nods. “That sounds fair to me, then maybe the two of you can bounce ideas off of each other.”

Did my daddy just commit me to meeting up with this man? Glaring at him dumbfounded, I suppress the words that want to leave my mouth. I have never disrespected my daddy, and I wasn’t going to start now. Although I’m in charge of Morgan Enterprises, daddy still had a sounding voice in the company.

Addressing daddy, I return, “If you think that’s wise daddy, then I will consider it.”

Jaden and another server stop at the table with our food. They call off the orders, then pass the plates to everyone. When they finish, Jaden asks, “Is there anything else you all need?”

“No, we’re fine Jaden,” daddy tells her.

“I’ll be back soon to see if you all have changed your mind,” Jaden says before she and the other server walk away.

Booker leans forward, peering at the plates in front of Batista. The slab of ribs alone has a platter to themselves and the smaller plates with his sides surround it. I don’t think he will be able to finish off his meal. The saying, ‘eyes bigger than the stomach’ surely applies here.

Daddy pulled momma’s hand in his before she reached out for Bookers. Everyone did the same until a circle around the table was complete. I normally wouldn’t have a problem with this but once my hand connected with Domencio’s, a surge of God knows what went through my body. When I tried to pull away from him, his grip tightened.

“Everyone bow your heads,” daddy instructed. “Heavenly Father, I would like to thank you for letting my family see another day. I know you’re a merciful God, so I pray that you forgive us of our sins...”

I had to do a deep nod on that one, because it might’ve been wrong for what I did to Smitty, but he was in the wrong for the disrespectful things he said last night. Then again, maybe it was Domencio who landed the fatal shot. Who am I kidding, it felt good giving that bigot his just due. You don’t call me the N word and expect to live to tell the tale.

“And Father, keep blessing my family. This I ask in your namesake, amen.”

We all say amen at the same time. Batista released my hand, but Domencio continued to hold onto the other, placing it under the table to rest on his thigh. I gawked at him, and he acted like this shit was normal.

As much as I wanted to make a scene at the table, I held it in. How are you going to hold a person’s hand hostage? Personally, I thought our dealings with each other ended last night, but apparently Mr. DeLuca has other thoughts.

Do you know how hard it is to eat with only one hand? Yeah, well neither did I until this Neanderthal put me in that type of situation.

As he ate and continued to converse and laugh with my parents, Domencio never let my hand go. I tried several ways to pry it from his grip, but nothing worked. It was like he had some sticky resin on his palm.

I don’t know if Batista ordered the full slab of ribs to prove something to Booker, but he devoured the majority of them, leaving two ribs on his plate and also leaving the side plates empty. Booker’s plate was left with discarded bones, and nothing on his sides.
