“You’re worth giving all of that up.” Her hand settled on my back. “You didn’t finish it.”
“Finish what?”
“The saying about loving someone and setting them free. You only quoted part of it.”
Before I realized what I was doing, I reached around me, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her in front of me, pinning her back to the gate and her arms above her head.
“Goddess, don’t.” I stared at her beautiful flushed face. “Don’t do it.”
She smiled up at me. “Don’t what?”
“Don’t finish it.”
“Why?” She lifted her chin.
“If you do, I won’t let you go.”
“I’m not asking you to. In fact, I want the very opposite. Actually,I’mkeepingyou.”
“I’m not the right man for you. You deserve someone who doesn’t bring the shit I do.”
“I’m not innocent, either. You know this firsthand. You seem to get off on that side of me.”
“There’s no turning back once you take this step. Do you understand this? No changing your mind. No escape.”
“You don’t frighten me.”
“Think carefully about what you are committing to. I will own all of you. Body, mind, and soul.”
“I find that acceptable since you own my heart.”
Fuck.
I dropped my forehead against hers. “I’m trying to do the right thing. Why won’t you let me do the right thing?”
“Because everyone’s version of the right thing was never my style.” She paused, took a deep breath, and then continued. “I have a proposition for you.”
Lifting my head, I stared into her onyx eyes.
“If you can actually see me living a life with someone else, marrying someone else, having a family with someone else, I’ll walk away.” My fingers flexed on her wrists. “But if you love me the way I believe you do, then you put aside this stupid sense of chivalry, take me to Vegas, and marry me tonight.”
“You want to elope?”
“Do you love me, Simon?”
“You already know how I feel.”
“Do I? All I’ve heard so far are parts of a well-known quote.”
I cupped her face and then ran a thumb over her lips and down her throat.
“I love you, Olympia Nyx Mykos.”
“Was that so hard?”
“You’ve sealed your fate. I hope you understand this.”
“As that quote you never finished goes: If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, they’re yours. I’m yours, Simon.”
