I clenched my jaw as I saw another image from tonight, through the living room windows of the suite where Nyx was right now. Her leaning back as I kissed her.

Whoever took those shots had a long-range camera, telling me someone had tipped them off about our location. And no one should have known about the game outside of the people Nyx had invited and our security teams.

I scanned the note attached. It might as well have sealed my uncle and his fucking son’s death certificates.

Didthe darkness find his night? Is she your weakness? Or is she a prize for all that comes with her? Remember, there is always another Drakos around to replace you if you can’t make it to the altar.

I was donewith this shit. No more waiting. No more planning. He wanted a war, he’d get his fucking war. But first, I’d make goddamned sure no one touched my woman.

“Did you get in touch with anyone?” I moved toward the exit to the warehouse.

Kasen shook his head. “Something is off. No one can get in touch with anyone at the penthouse. Our men should have reported in within seconds, and it’s radio science.”

I gripped the back of my neck, and I’d barely made it over the threshold of the doorway when I heard, “Hello, nephew.”

Kasen and a few of my other lieutenants threw their bodies over mine, blocking me from taking the bullet shot in my direction.

In the next second, chaos ensued, my men going into action as I rolled to the side, pulled out my gun, and prepared to end this bullshit once and for all.

The past no longer mattered, or avenging my parents and Gio. It was about my present and future.

Nyx.

I sighedas the last of the cleaning crew exited the suite a little after two in the morning. Tonight’s game seemed to have taken more out of me than usual. Maybe it was the emotions churning inside me from the intensity of my conversation with Simon.

Fuck. The last thing I ever expected out of my life was that I’d end up wanting to spend it as the other half of a syndicate head.

He wasn’t supposed to matter. The thought of him not being in my life shouldn’t make me want to cry. He’d fucking blackmailed me into this shit.

Lifting my tumbler to my lips, I swallowed down a healthy gulp of whiskey. The smooth, potent spirit heated my insides and gave me a small sense of calmness.

Stevie came toward me and nodded in an indication that she and her team had secured our take for tonight’s event.

“Want to watch a movie like old times until he gets here?” I asked, offering Stevie a serving of the amber goodness.

“We won’t even get through the opening credits. Let’s just have a drink or two.”

“How the fuck did I get here?” I asked and then dropped my head into my hand.

“You have a thing for assholes. It’s your kink.”

I glared at her and then shook my head. “Only one asshole. I don’t understand when it changed.”

“You’re kidding, right?”

“What?”

“It happened that first day when he caught you on your knees in the garden. He had you under his thrall with those fucking green eyes of his with one look. Hell, I can’t stand him most of the time, and even I’m not immune to them.”

“If I remember correctly, you and Akari were the ones who wanted him to become my booty call.” I ran a hand over my face. “What am I going to do?”

“Can you see yourself walking away?”
