Six weeksto the day since leaving Simon’s house, I leaned against the railing of my apartment balcony and enjoyed the view of the Vegas night sky.

Lifting my face into the warm summer breeze, I sighed. This was my first night off in weeks, and the only things on my agenda included cocktails and maybe a movie or two.

Alone.

The last thing I wanted was anyone around.

It seemed as if everyone and their dog thought I was going to fall apart at any moment. Why couldn’t they understand people handled pain differently?

I channeled all my hurt and rage into work. It kept me from thinking too much and gave me an outlet.

It was when I wasn’t busy that thoughts crept in and the pain started choking me, therefore work solved all of my issues. And made me wealthier in the process.

Since coming back from New York, I’d run ten Silent Night Club events throughout Vegas, drawing in some of the biggest whales from around the world.

I realized I was pushing my luck during last night’s event when I’d learned the FBI had raided an underground poker ring in another part of town. Therefore, I’d made the call to close shop for at least two months.

Now, I had to find something else to occupy my time.

Dropping my head to the railing, I groaned.

“How did I guess I’d find you here,” I heard Akari say from behind me. “You’re coming with me.”

I glared over my shoulder at Stevie. “What’s the point of you being my security if you let people in?”

“She has a key. I assumed that she was an exception.”

I shifted my attention to Akari. “I’m not going anywhere, so you can turn around.”

Acting as if I hadn’t said anything to her, Akari moved in my direction. She held a mug in her hand, and I had a sneaky suspicion it contained one of her spiked teas I loved so much.

Bitch was trying to bribe me.

At least if she was going to disturb my night in, she brought something.

“The destination I have in mind has some of the best nightlife in the world.”

“Vegas has some of the best nightlife in the world. I’m good here.”

“Here. Drink this.” Akari handed me the mug. “It will help lighten your mood. And then I’ll show you something that I’m positive will convince you to jump on the jet with me.”

Taking the cup from her, I inhaled the rich aroma of tea and whiskey and then took a deep gulp.

“Okay, spill what you want to tell me and then go away. Nothing is going to get me to leave this apartment. I want to veg.”

“Originally, I’d planned to Nyx-nap you and whisk you away to Bora Bora, but some recent information concerning you has made me change our destination.”

I cocked my head to the side and then studied her. “You’ve got my curiosity piqued.”

“He lied to you.”

“Who?”

“Your asshole.”

I swallowed. He wasn’t mine. He’d all but destroyed my heart. No, hehaddestroyed it.

“He’s not mine.”
