“Are we all in agreement?”I asked Jayna and Danika. “Only sign if you are sure.”

Less than two weeks after the incident at Maya Ratna Holdings, the three of us sat in the living room of my penthouse with an array of documents set before us. We were about to decide what to do with all of Shah International’s assets.

As far as the public believed, Shah and Joshi had died while on a ski trip when Shah suffered a heart attack and lost control of their all-terrain vehicle. The news outlets reported that both men suffered life-threatening injuries and passed en route to the hospital.

It truly amazed me what Solon had managed to organize within hours of the two men’s actual deaths.

“I’m sure.” Danika rubbed her growing belly. “I thought I deserved a piece of the Shah inheritance. But the truth was, I didn’t want Uncle to have it. Between Nik and me, this little one has more than enough.”

“I tried to give it to you years ago. That should tell you enough,” Jayna added. “Besides, according to the will, it doesn’t belong to any of us in the first place.”

“Then, we sign.”

Fifteen minutes later, every asset under Shah International, including the ones Jayna and Danika had acquired to keep Shah in line while alive, had been transferred to Neil Shuchen Joshi, the eldest of Sara Shah’s grandchildren.

“Now we wait.” I checked my watch. “I give it an hour, max.”

It took less than a half hour before security alerted me that Devani and a very irate Neil Joshi were on their way up to the penthouse.

The elevator doors barely opened when Neil charged in. “I don’t want it.”

Devani shifted into my sight behind Neil and shook her head, telling me without words that I was in for a fight.

“Too late.” I lifted my tumbler of scotch to my lips, knowing exactly the rage he had to work through.

“I will burn it to the fucking ground.”

“It belongs to you. Do what you want with it. I’ll hand you the match if it makes you feel better.”

“Why? I sold you that bastard Joshi’s company for a fucking reason.” He ran a frustrated hand through his hair. “Shah wasn’t my father.”

“Or mine. But the will states that the eldest gets everything. The rest of us oversee the company.”

“Do you understand what you are handing over to me? I’m a complete stranger!”

“My wife trusts you. That’s all I need to know.”

“You have no clue. I could be just as bad as the monster whose blood runs in our veins. If you knew half the shit I’ve done.”

“And if you knew what I did as a kid to survive the streets before Arin King found me, you’d feel the same way.”

“What will you say if I give everything to Mia? She is the most innocent in all of this. If anyone deserves a fortune, it’s her.”

“Go ahead. It’s your company, your empire. You see, the Kings don’t work the way other families do. We don’t need to share blood to be a unit. It’s never about who has more. It’s about survival and making sure everyone makes it.”

“Meaning?”

“Mia is part of our unit now.” Jayna stepped forward, her eyes trained on Neil, taking in every one of his features. “You want to give it to her. That’s your right. You’re family, so she’s family. Simple as that.”

“Nothing’s that simple.” Neil stared at her just as intently.

“It was with us,” Devani added. “Why can’t it be the same with them?”

“You tried to kill me the first time I met you. I hardly consider that simple.”

I couldn’t help but smile at the annoyance he directed at Devani.
