“Sam wanted to kill you too. So you’re ahead of the game.” Devani’s tone grew serious. “Neil, you can make it as complicated as you want. Whether you like it or not, you have family, and they are all Kings. Might as well get used to it.”

Neil remained quiet, lost in thought. Then, after a few minutes, he looked between Jayna and me and released a deep breath before nodding.

“I hope one of you is a good mentor.”

“Why is that?” I asked.

“Because a thirteen-year-old girl needs to learn how to run a billion-dollar company, and with the responsibilities associated with my new promotion, I won’t have the time to help my sister.”

I jerked my chin in Devani’s direction as she cocked a hip and folded her arms across her body, giving me a death glare.

“I believe I have just the right person for the job. She recently retired from a high-stress position and may need some volunteer opportunities to fill the time.”

“I hada feeling I’d find you here,” I said as I made my way up the final steps leading into Devani’s meditation room.

The woman took my breath away. She was utterly gorgeous.

She stood with her arms braced against the floor-to-ceiling windows. The lights of the New York City skyline at night illuminated the dark room and cast her in a glow.

“I like it up here.”

“So do I.” I moved toward her. “But probably for different reasons than yours.”

Turning, she leaned her back against the glass. “Are you sure about that? I have some fond tension-relieving memories in here.”

A wicked smile touched her lips, giving me visions of everything I wanted to do with that mouth.

“Would you like me to build you a room like this in our new place?”

We’d decided to move out of the city onto the same property where her parents’ home once stood. No house existed on the land at the moment, but soon she’d get the home she always wanted, where she felt safe and not alone.

“Why don’t I build a whole floor like this for myself in our new place?”

Of course, she’d counter with something like that.

“As long as it has all the finer features I prefer, I have no objections.” I approached, caging her with my body.

She pressed her palms to my chest. “I’m sure we can work something out.”

“In the meantime, we need to decide where we are living for the next however long.”

“Is there a problem with our current arrangement?”

“No more sneaking around through passageways and private elevators. I’ve captured the Queen of Diamonds, and the world will know it.”

“You actually believe that you’ve captured me, Mr. King?”

“I know I have. And if you try to escape, I’ll lock you in a tower and throw away the key.”

She narrowed her dark gaze and tilted her chin up. “Try putting me in a tower and see what happens to you.”

I cupped her throat and squeezed.

Immediately, her eyes dilated as a moan escaped her lips.

Leaning forward until our mouths brushed, I asked, “Wouldn’t this room qualify as a tower, Highness?”
