I lifted my foot from Joshi’s neck, and he coughed and sputtered blood.

He pushed himself to sit and glared at me but remained on the floor.

“Do you have any idea what you have done? The people in this room just witnessed you assault me.”

As if on cue, a tingle shot down my spine, and I immediately knew Noah and our team had arrived.

They would gather the staff in the kitchen and relocate them to different lives with different positions.

Solon targeted and killed for a reason. We rarely allowed the innocent to become collateral damage.

“I doubt your staff hasn’t thought of knocking you on your ass a time or a million since they started working for you. I only followed through.”

A thought crossed my mind. How could the team have gotten here so fast? Neil could have only sent the message a few seconds ago.

The microchips.

Fine. I guessed the lack of sleep was worth it.

The team more than likely mobilized the second the argument with Mia started. I was never the type to stand by while anyone bullied a child.

Yep, I’d better prepare myself for a Noah Carter lecture on controlling my temper and kick-happy foot.

Confusion flashed on Joshi’s face.

Still not understanding the dynamics of what was happening, he focused on Neil.“Are you going to stand there playing her lapdog? I can’t believe I raised such a pathetic son.”

“To answer your question, yes. As she is the ranking officer on this operation, I take orders from her. And for the record, you took no part in raising me. You didn’t even provide the sperm for me.”

Joshi attempted to stand, but I shoved him down with my foot.“Thank you for becoming the man we needed you to be this morning.”

“You manipulated me into the altercation with my daughter.”

I glanced at Neil, asking without words if he was ready. The slight twitch at the corner of his lips gave me all the confirmation I needed to end this back-and-forth.

“I would love to take credit for everything that transpired, but you made all of it happen on your own. Now, sir, you are about to meet someone no one would ever deem weak. Once he finishes, I’ll get to play. Welcome to our world.”

I stepped back as Neil leaned down, grabbed Joshi by his shirt, and hauled him up.

“Hello, Papa. I’m known as the Extractor. My specialty is working with combative informants. I believe you qualify. You are now my puppet. What you know, I will know. And if you even think about turning on me, I will make you pay for every single time you let someone hurt my mother while I was too young to protect her.”

“That dress doesn’t look gala-appropriate,”Neil said as he stepped into the archway between my primary bedroom and bathroom suite.

I glanced at him through the reflection in the mirror above my vanity. “Another opportunity came up that I couldn’t refuse.”

An opportunity to capture a European member of the Circle who’d decided to visit the United States for an early morning meeting with an associate. I wanted this heavy hitter out of the country and tucked away in a nice cell before sunrise.

I needed Shah agitated and suspicious of everyone around him. And by taking out the broker who negotiated all of the Circle’s international deals and the person Shah planned to enjoy breakfast with tomorrow morning, I’d accomplish my goal.

I expected Neil to eat my head later for keeping him in the dark. However, in my defense, I’d waited a full week after the incident and interrogation in which Joshi essentially became our walking, talking puppet.

And considering what I’d discovered while I snooped last night, I had to act the moment I heard the rumor of our perp boarding his flight.

But then again, if I’d told anyone I’d planned to sneak into the Shah Mansion again, they would have lost their shit. For weeks, my gut had been screaming at me to learn what Shah was keeping hidden away in that compartment.
