Sam stared at me, not moving, not speaking. The only indication he heard what I’d said was the intense play of emotions burning in his eyes.

When he remained quiet, I pushed, “Say something.”

“I know.”

“What do you mean, you know? Know what?”

“That you’re pregnant.”

“How the fuck would you know when I didn’t? I confirmed it earlier today.”

He moved toward me, not stopping until he had me by the waist, and then walked me backward, pinning my back to the wall.

“Oh, I have a whole list. Would you like to hear it?”

The ferocity of his words had my heartbeat accelerating.

“Umm. Go right ahead.”

“I pay attention to you. I notice everything about you. I’ve watched things changing for the last month, especially these.” He cupped my breast.

Out of instinct, I arched into his hold.

“Also, you’re never tired to the point of utter exhaustion. I’ve seen you go for weeks with the barest amount of sleep and then find me for an all-night sex session. You have more energy than anyone I have ever met. If I could bottle it, I’d be the richest man in the world.”

He slid one hand to my nape, tilting my face up. “Then the big one. The one that confirmed it for me was after that night in my penthouse.”

“You mean, the night I should have neutered your ass?”

“Yes, that one.” His lips curved slightly. “Highness, when you’re pissed, you walk away without a backward glance. You are cold, calculating, and have no problems freezing anyone out. You never let anyone see your emotions and especially let them know if anything they said landed or hurt you. Yet that night, I watched all of my words hit their mark. And the cherry on top, you cried. You do not cry. Ever. You left my place and broke down in the passageway.”

I tried to jerk my face away, refusing to let him see how much his analysis gutted me. “Take your psycho-babble and stuff it. You don’t know me.”

“At this moment.” He cupped my throat with his other hand and pressed his front to mine. “I know you better than you do.”

“Then you’re positive the baby is yours?” My heartbeat accelerated.

He narrowed his gaze and leaned in until his mouth was a hairsbreadth from mine. “I never had a single doubt.”

“What makes you so sure?” My question came out through a shallow breath as his fingers flexed on my neck.

“Because you’re mine.” He bit my lower lip. “You were mine from the moment you sauntered up to my table that first night and threw down that challenge.”

“You think too highly of yourself.”

“It doesn’t change the facts, Highness. When I said I marked you inside and out, I wasn’t talking about our child. I meant that I’m in your soul. You’d rather burn off your energy in the gym than even imagine someone other than me touching you, tasting you, being with you. Sooner or later, you’ll have to admit the truth.”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Keep lying to yourself.” His mouth sealed over mine.

Without thought, I met his demands, needing to feel him and accept what was happening in our lives.

In the back of my mind, logic screamed that the conversation wasn’t even close to halfway done, that his words warned of too many consequences, that we had too much on the line.

Instead of listening to my voice of reason, I pushed it aside, wanting nothing more than to lose myself in the man before me.

My fingers went to the buttons of his shirt.
