“Feel free to tell her. I’ve made my position on this situation clear. But as usual, she values herself less than others.”

I narrowed my gaze as a surge of jealousy hit me. Neil held a bond with Devani built over experiences I could never touch.

“You love her?”

“Yes.” He waited, letting that one word hang in the air.

The glint in his eyes made it clear he’d paused to fuck with me.

Asshole.

Then, he smirked and continued. “As a sister. She’s too much a diva for my tastes.”

“Good thing she’s not yours.”

“But is she yours?”

“Why is it so important I make things right with her?”

“So she is out of the way when I take the revenge she planned to give you, little brother.”

Devani

A little beforeeight in the evening, I worked my way through the underground tunnel leading into the interior of the Dayal-King Gallery.

I’d expected a summons from Danika, correction, the Little Rabbit weeks ago, and it surprised me she’d waited this long. When Danika wanted answers, she went to great lengths to acquire them.

I couldn’t fault her. Her whole life revolved around information, being a hacker and all.

Pushing a loose panel to the side, I stepped into the appraisal section of the gallery.

Behind a large workstation, Danika leaned back in her chair as she rubbed the swell of her belly. I had no doubt she’d known the second I’d stepped within fifty feet of her building. And she’d activated the security system as soon as I crawled into my usual access point.

Sometimes, I hated being so predictable.

Her hazel eyes met mine, and she asked, “Do you remember when I told you not so long ago that it would happen to you?”

“I require specifics, then maybe I’ll understand your meaning.” I moved toward her and then cocked a hip against her desk.

“Oh, I’m going to explain in great detail.”

I pursed my lips. “Let me hear it.”

“It was always more than you wanted us to believe. I know the reason why you kept pushing Sam away and why you couldn’t let him go.”

“I’m sure you’re going to tell me.”

“Sam broke through that rock-hard shell of yours, and you melted the ice in his veins.”

Her words seared as if she’d struck a fiery poker deep into my gut. It only added to the crushing pain that refused to ease ever since Sam walked out of the theater dressing room a week ago.

Keeping my face void of emotion, I asked in the bitchy voice everyone accepted as part of my personality, “Is there a point to this?”

“He’s your weakness. And a Solon agent can’t have a weakness, especially not a director. Am I correct, Director Patel?” Danika matched my snark.

Bitch never let me get away with anything.
