She turned in my arms, suddenly becoming the aggressor and pushing at my clothes. “I want you naked.”

“I have no issues with this.” I shrugged my jacket off my shoulders as she untied my bowtie, and within minutes, I stood before her divested of all clothing.

Her heated gaze raked me from head to toe, lingering longer than necessary on my cock.

“Devani,” I warned.

Without shifting focus, she licked her lips and answered, “Yes.”

My control snapped, and I pulled her toward me.

“About fucking time.” She bit my lower lip, just shy of too hard.

I growled and tugged her head back, meeting her viciousness with my own by scoring my teeth along the column of her neck.

“Always manipulating.” I slid my palms down her body, molding her curves.

“I—I have a reputation for a reason.”

“That you do.” I cupped and pinched her nipples, eliciting a whimper from her lips. “You could try the direct approach. You may get a better response.”

Her eyes narrowed as she brought her body flush with mine.

“How’s this for direct? Fuck me raw and dirty, Mr. King. I dare you.”

I grasped her jaw, lowering my face to hers. “I hear your challenge. However, I have a counteroffer.”

“And that is?”

“I dare you to let yourself go. Let yourself feel. Let yourself be vulnerable. There is nothing wrong with gentle, soft, and emotional.”

Her lips trembled. “Sam.”

“Let me cherish you, Highness.”

She nodded her head as a tear slipped down her cheek. “Okay.”

Thumbing the wetness off her face, I leaned forward and grazed my mouth over hers in slow passes, coaxing, teasing. She shivered, fluttering her eyes closed and releasing a low sigh from her lips.

I lifted her into my arms, carried her to the bed, and laid her upon the plush duvet, caging her with my body.

“Do you even know how beautiful you are?”

She smirked. “I’m well aware of my looks. I know what I see in the mirror.”

“I’m not talking about your face. I mean the woman in here.” I set my hand over her heart. “You care more than anyone I have ever met, and you’ll put everything on the line just to protect others, even if it means sacrificing yourself.”

She glanced away for a brief moment, revealing a shyness she rarely showed anyone.

“Don’t make me something I’m not. I’m far from a saint.”

“Oh no, you’re no saint. More of an avenging angel.”

“Fallen angel is more like it.” The features of her face softened, and she reached up and cupped my face, running her fingers over the stubble on my chin before threading them into the hair at the back of my head. “Then, you’ll have to accept you’re no different than I am.”

I dropped my forehead to hers. “I have no problem admitting the truth.”

“And that is?”
