His hand landed on her stomach. “Hello, mate. I want you to eat something.”

She stretched, causing her to arch her back, making saliva pool in his mouth. Hell, he needed to give her time to heal before he went at her again.

“Oh my God,” she said and tried to recoil away from him, but he just tightened his grip.

“Easy, it’s just me,” Blake said.

She stared at him for a long moment. “You shaved.”

He chuckled. “Yes. Do I look so different?”

“Yes.

He shrugged. “I thought I should look like a proper mate.” He sat up and reached behind him. “I’m going to put you in one of my shirts for the time being.”

“Can’t we go get any of my clothes?” she asked.

“No. I want us to stay hidden for the time being, so we’ll have to make do with what we have.”

He heard her sigh, but she nodded her head. After pulling the shirt on, he laid her on her back again.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

He scooped some of the cream on one of his fingers and separated her legs.

“I’m going to put some of this cream in you. I made it from herbs I found around here. It will help you heal faster.”

She tried to grab his wrist. “Wait, I can do that.”

He stared down at her. “I’m sure you can, but it’s my job to take care of you, so you’ll let me do it.”

“Good girl,” he said when she relaxed and spread her legs. He slid his finger into her and rubbed the cream around. He pulled out, got more of it, and went back in. He wanted to make sure he’d covered everything.

“There, mate.” He pulled her up, took her hand, and led her into the living area.

“Oh, something smells good,” she said.

“I made bread.”

“Oh, wow. From scratch?”

He chuckled. “Yes. We don’t have a grocery store close. I go into another town to stock up on the essentials and then hunt and make the things I like. Do you cook?”

She nodded. “Yes. I also like to bake.”

“Maybe you’ll bake me something,” he said.

She hugged him around the waist. “Absolutely.”

They ate fresh bread and stew, and it was one of the best meals she’d ever had.

All day, she couldn’t seem to pull her eyes away from him. Her attraction was strong before when he had a beard and long hair. Now that he was clean-shaven, he was so gorgeous she couldn’t believe he was hers. He could have passed for a male model with his square chin and perfectly proportioned face.

It was one of the most relaxing nights she’d ever had. She helped him with the dishes, and then they both sat on the sofa in front of the fire. He had her on his lap, and they were both reading from books they’d chosen from his huge selection.

She had no idea what started it, maybe his scent or the feel of being in his arms, but she felt her stomach start to tighten, and her need grow.

Blake put his book down before marking her page and setting hers on top of his on the table next to the sofa. He lifted her to face him astride his legs.
