Before I can get all emotional again, Colt comes back and guides us to Darlene’s room. The babies are totally perfect. A little girl that looks just like Darlene and a baby boy with a shock of Colt’s dark hair.

“They are perfect,” I say to Darlene, not looking up from the cherub-like face of her daughter. I can’t wait to hold my own baby… sooner than anyone knows.

“Aren’t they?” Darlene replies with a dreamy expression on her face. She looks both exhausted and happier than I’ve ever seen her.

I trade babies with Tessa, meeting my nephew for the first time. Lord, he’s just as perfect as his sister. My heart is full of love for these little guys. I’m so lucky to have a sister of my heart like Darlene. I couldn’t imagine a life without her and now her family in it.

Tears well in my eyes again, and I struggle to blink them back.

“Don’t get all weepy on me,” Darlene scolds. “If you cry, I’m going to cry.”

“Then me,” Tessa says quietly.

I swallow down my emotion, willing the tears to disappear. I turn to Jasper and hold out the baby for him to hold. He holds him like he was made to. I can’t wait to see our own baby in his arms.

Darlene yawns and Colt shoos us away, promising we can come visit tomorrow once her and the twins have had a chance to rest.

We’re on our way home when Jasper speaks. “Are you ready for that?”

“What babies?”

“Yeah.”

I give him a curious look. “Are you?” I ask.

He smiles over at me briefly before turning his attention back to the road. “I’m ready for everything with you, babygirl.”

“Me too. I can’t wait to start our family.”

At the next stoplight, he leans over the console and kisses me sweetly. If my heart wasn’t already full to bursting, it would be now.

“I love you, Charity. Always.”

“I can’t imagine a life without you, Jasper.”

THE END
